Nash Rawiller riding in Career Best Form ?

Nash Rawiller is in red-hot form ahead of his West Australian raid on Saturday, where he partners Watch Me Rock in the Group 1 Northerly Stakes at Ascot.

This season, Rawiller has taken 146 rides for 30 winners at a strong 20.5% strike-rate, continuing his impactful partnerships with Lindermann, Gringotts and Private Eye. He has juggled commitments between Sydney and Melbourne with trademark precision, delivering key Spring Carnival results while maintaining elite associations with Chris Waller and Joe Pride.

But it’s when you drill into the numbers that Rawiller’s current level becomes crystal clear.

NASH RAWILLER — Last 100 Rides (as of 4/12/25)

  • 23 wins – 16 seconds – 9 thirds

  • Win %: 23 | Place %: 48

  • Producing 1.3 wins vs expected 1.0 (market outperformance)

  • ROI (Return On Ivestment): +21.8%

  • Average SP (Starting Price): $7.30

  • Mounts firming on average 2.4% in betting

What does it all mean?

Quite simply, Rawiller is riding winners at a rate above market expectation — and doing it on horses the market already respects. His mounts firm on average, sit under double-figure odds, and still outperform. He’s delivering profit for punters and elite results for connections. Very few riders are both heavily backed and still delivering overs. Nash is.

The key to Nash’s resurgence

It’s hard to isolate one metric, but a revealing insight emerges from his 30 winners this season:
he has settled, on average, just 1.9 lengths off the leader.

For long-time followers, that won’t raise eyebrows. Rawiller has always excelled on on-speed, high-cruising machinery — Elvstroem, More Joyous, Theseo, Pierro, Eduardo — and years under Gai Waterhouse ingrained pace-positive riding into his DNA. But the data underscores how effectively he’s maintaining that identity in 2025 and how valuable it is in modern racing.

He consistently puts horses into winning positions — even those that traditionally map midfield or worse. In an era where settling close to the speed wins the most races across most tracks, Rawiller is maximising that advantage.

Track walking has also become a major pillar of his preparation. Ciaron Maher highlighted this after Gringotts won The Gong, and his recent doubles at Kyneton and Bendigo, along with his Melbourne Cup Day treble at Randwick, further prove he’s identifying the right lanes early and executing with precision.

At 50, you could mount a compelling case that Rawiller has never ridden better.

  • R6: Desert Dancing (Robert Gulberti)
