Cox Plate Day saw some incredible movement on the Betfair Exchange, particularly Marnix in Race 2 at Randwick.
Having already opened at an outside with betting sites and a BSP of $54.12 he fell into difficulty and hit a staggering $800 in-play price. There were quite a few nibbles north of $200 before claiming the win.
Saltaire was another challenging watch for punters at Moonee Valley, trading at $1.05 in-play. She looked like gobbling them all up but missed Gumdrops.
Grand Pierro was a drifter, but he quickly shortened again after jumping well. He was going so well that he hit $1.03 in-play and was matched for more than $500 at or around that mark, but couldn’t get the win.
Not to leave out Yarra Valley, where Midnight Devil was matched heavily at $1.02 and $1.03, having opened at $1.81, before finishing second.
In other wagering news from the weekend, Imperatriz took $1,557,872 in matched volume, amounting to nearly 90% of the pool for the Manikato. As a result, she was the best backed runner anywhere in Australia this calendar year.
