The first big race of The Pinnacles at Ascot this Saturday is the best race WA has to offer, the Railway Stakes (1600m).
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 Railway Stakes.
2025 Railway Stakes Runner Preview:
1.Western Empire: I really like 1 Western Empire here. He resumed two weeks ago in the Lee Steere where he pretty much went around for a barrier trial and as such, closed off with real purpose against the pattern. The gate, on paper, could be tricky, but with a genuine tempo, the gaps should appear and he’ll be strongest late.
2.Magnificent Andy: You’d struggle to find a more genuine horse in WA than this guy. But, I don’t see him running a strong mile at this level.
3.Iowna Merc: Outclassed in the Russell Balding and while this is easier, just not sure how well he is going.
4.Super Smink: Well and truly blessed in the Lee Steere and only just got there. She seems really poorly weighted, tricky draw…she is one I am keen to oppose.
5.In Good Order: He looks to be right on track for the Perth Cup. Whether he is sharp enough to win this, not sure, but off the Lee Steere effort, you’d have to say he’s in the mix, especially with a kind map.
6.Osipenko: Think he needs a wet track but a big win last start when class came to the fore and at his best, he is a class runner. Will need an all time ride from the gate but with luck, he can win.
7.Comfort Me: This is his fifth crack at the Railway, placing in three previous editions. He’ll be out of trouble on speed and we have seen in recent meetings that Ascot is very much suiting up/in.
8.Diamond Scene: Diamond Scene could be the map horse. He is five weeks between runs since resuming with a surprise win in the Eurhythmic, finishing best after getting a cheap run on speed. He maps to stalk the speed and being a 2000m+ horse, he’ll be strong late.
9.Bustler: Every chance in the Lee Steere and for mine, I don’t think he’s going well enough to trouble these.
10.Let’s Galahvant: Okay late in the Lee Steere but has eyes on the Perth Cup.
11.Sentimental Hero: I dare say they are haeding to the Perth Cup but Froggy Newitt on tells me there is clear intent with this horse and this race, to try and wind up early and make this a proper mile contest. Rough chance at odds.
12.Watch Me Rock: Watch Me Rock is the obvious. He got a 12/10 by Pike to win the Asian Beau, driving hard late from off speed to nab them late in an impressive display. Team Williams have earmarked him as their #1 seed for the Railway all prep and here he is. Leading contender.
13.Admiration Express: Has has two runs at 1400m to start the prep and is racing like a fast run mile will be ideal. Should land in a good spot from the gate and be effective late. A win wouldn’t entirely shock.
14.Depth Of Character: Good gate, he’d almost be top seed. But drawn the gate he has, he may as well be a scratching IMO and can mark him much longer.
15.Ginger Baker: Has eyes on the Perth Cup. Not here.
16.Storyville: Great ride from Pike to win the Peters last Saturday. Gate isn’t as kind this time and loses Pike, but she’s a very genuine mare down in the weights.
17.Hemlock Stone (First Emergency): Perth Cup.
18.Yonga Lass (Second Emergency): Will run well in the Carbine Club.
19.Aztec Ruler (Third Emergency): Will run well in the Carbine Club.
20.Cosmic Crusader (Fourth Emergency): Less said him the better.

2025 Railway Stakes Speed Map
Comfort Me looks the leader and he’ll roll along on speed. Not sure he’ll cop much pressure if allowed to roll. Admiration Express will settle handy, likewise Ginger Baker, maybe Bustler? Do they give Magnificent Andy a dig in the ribs?
