The feature race for 2yo’s at Rosehill’s meeting this Saturday is the Silver Slipper Stakes. A small but competitive field of seven will contest with early favourite being Magic Millions winner, Unencumbered at $2.80. Risen From Doubt, who has only had one start for an impressive win back in October of last year, is second favourite at $3.80 with Law, Gai Waterhouse’s representative who will be out to give his trainer her third consecutive success in this race, an early drifter $3.30 out to $4.00. In form stable Hawkes Racing will have one of two fillies entered for the race Mossfun, who is quoted a $5.50 chance in early betting.

1. UNENCUMBERED – N Berry (2)

The Testa Rossa colt made it five wins from six starts, with a professional ¾ length win in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic at the start of the year where he defeated Oakleigh Girl and Ruby Soho. As he did in the Wyong Magic Millions and G3 B.J. McLachlan Stakes at his previous starts, he secured a lovely run behind the speed before finishing too strongly for his rivals. Hasn’t raced for seven weeks and no trials leading into this but Bjorn Baker’s runner is a professional type who will enjoy the tempo of this 1100m race and be finishing well.

Odds: $2.80

2. LAW – N Rawiller (3)

The son of Denman made it two wins from as many starts with a 3 ¼ length win at Randwick over 1000m three weeks back. That was his first run back since he won the Listed Breeder’s Plate on debut last October where he defeated Mohave (recent winner of the Blue Diamond Preview) by half a length. Sure to have taken further benefit out of the first up run and will be hard to beat.

Odds: $4.00

3. RISEN FROM DOUBT – J Bowman (6)
After two handy barrier trial wins in Adelaide, the Tony McEvoy runner travelled to Flemington to make his debut in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial (1000m) back in October last year and as the $4.60 favourite, didn’t let punters down with a very smart 2 ½ length win over Jabali and Boomwaa. That form has proven very strong with Jabali running second to Earthquake in last weekend’s Blue Diamond and Boomwaa, who was competitive in all his lead up runs, running fifth in the same event. McEvoy has prepped the son of Not A Single Doubt for his return to racing with a winning Wyong barrier trial a week where Bowman doing the steering. Bowman sticks with him here and he has to rated a big chance.

Odds: $3.70

4. MODOC – B Shinn (5)

Paul Perry’s runner closed well from the back half of the field when scoring a 1 ¼ length win in a Newcastle Maiden six weeks ago. Since then, the Haradasun gelding bolted in by 6.5 lengths in a 2yo race at Scone before contesting the Inglis Premier at Mornington at his most recent start, where he was started the $2.35 favourite. He got back on a day where it paid to be closer to the speed and had to circle the field so his effort in running second (2 ¾ lengths) to smart winner Gold Force, rates well. Will be giving them a start again and has some smart ones to run down this grade.

Odds: $19.00

5. HAMPTON COURT – T Berry (4)

Purchased from last year’s Inglis Easter Sale for $500k, the colt by Redoute’s Choice made his debut in a Canterbury maiden three weeks ago. The Gai Waterhouse runner started the even money favourite in the field of seven and took up a handy position in the run however, he was no match late for winner Brazen Beau over the final stages and finished 4 ½ lengths away in second spot. Faces a big rise in class that will prove too much.

Odds: $11.00

6. MOSSFUN – J McDonald (7)

The Mossman filly won the lucrative Inglis Nursery (1000m) on debut back by a head over Dual Start before being given a brief break of ten weeks. She returned a fortnight ago in the G3 Widden Stakes (1100m) and from her inside draw, was able to secure a lovely run in transit and when required in the straight, the opening she needed to record a length win over Ygritte. Unlike her last two starts, may need to do it the tough way from the wide gate.

Odds: $5.50

7. PRESS REPORT – G Schofield (1)

Lee Curtis’ Written Tycoon filly settled second last in the run when making her debut last November in a Rosehill 2yo (1100m) race. She was hampered on the turn when looking for push out before making good ground through the field closer to the fence and running second to the highly promising Memorial (3 ¾ lengths). Has had a good break since then and been tuned up with two barrier trials for her return, the latest of which she won. Gets her chance from one but on the one run we’ve seen thus far, others preferred.

Odds: $67.00

RACE OVERVIEW

Law leads and would think Mossfun has to commit to a forward spot from her wide gate. Law should be able set a favourable pace. He won well last start, is fitter again and drops in weight. He’ll give them plenty to run down. Trailing the speed will be Unencumbered who has not put a foot wrong in his seven starts thus far and as he has been in each of his recent wins, will be in the perfect position to launch his claim as they turn for home. Risen From Doubt is the danger. Impressive winner on debut and the form from that race stacks up will. From gate six, look for Bowman to find Unencumbered’s back on the turn.
