Silver Shadow Stakes Form Guide
1. SWEET IDEA – T Berry (7)
Winner of two of her six starts – including the Silver Slipper – and yet to miss a place, this daughter of Snitzel rounded out her 2yo season with a third placing behind Overreach and Sidestep in the Golden Slipper. Won a trial well in July and despite running second to last at her next and most recent trial earlier this month, punters have posted her the early favourite here at $2.30. Based on her 2yo season, hard to knock.
Odds: $2.30
2. TWILIGHT ROYALE – J Bowman (8)
The winner of three of her five starts including at her most recent start back in March of this year, the VRC Sire’s Produce Stakes (1400m) where she defeated Shamus Award and Great Esteem. She won a trial in the first week of August and travelled well within herself when third of five in a further trail on the 16th August. She’ll be giving them a start as they turn but will be finishing hard.
Odds: $5.00
3. MONTSEGUR – K McEvoy (6)
Resumed from a nineteen week spell with a sixth (beaten 2.7 lengths) of ten in the G3 Quezette Stakes at Caulfield last week behind Kiss A Rose. That run and the extra 100m will suit but still have a few in front of here in this grade of race.
Odds: $3.80
4. GREYTFILLY – T Clark (2)
Former QLD galloper now based with Gai Waterhouse, she ran third in the G3 Sweet Embrace behind Romantic Moon back in the autumn. The daughter of Ferocity has had the Waterhouse standard two trials in preparation for her return and she has more than her share of ability. Would be happy to see what she can produce first up for the new stable.
Odds: $8.50
5 SNITZEL’S JEWEL – G Schofield (1)
She won a Gosford maiden back on debut in February and was immediately spelled by trainer Gerald Ryan. The well bred daughter of Snitzel than resumed in a 1000m 2yo race in July and kept her record in tact with a 1 ¼ length win and has since followed that run with a seventh of nine behind Windjammer (good last week) in a BM 72 at Rosehill. Sits handy form her inside gate but likely to find at least one here to good.
Odds: $26.00
6. THUMP – J Cassidy (4)
Never far off the winner in some smart two year old races during the autumn and does boast a second to Romantic Moon in the Silver Slipper (Greytfilly third). Cassidy rode her in winning a barrier trial a week ago and from gate four, if she can take a forward position is capable of offering some cheek.
Odds: $11.00
7. KILLCARELESS – N Berry (5)
Stable-mate to Twilight Royale, this More Than Ready filly has had three starts thus far and broke her maiden status at her most recent outing, a Warwick Farm maiden a week and a half ago. She started 9/4 fav there, camped on the speed and lasted to win by neck. Much tougher here.
Odds: $21.00
8. FARE WELL – C Reith (3)
Very well bred daughter of Exceed and Excel who won a Gosford maiden on debut back in May before a brief let-up of eleven weeks and returning to Gosford to run third (beaten 5.6 lengths) in a Class 1 for Fillies and Mares. It’s a long way from there to here in both terms of travel distance and class.
Odds: $41.00
OVERVIEW
Sweet Idea is the one to beat and she’ll push forward from her wide gate and give them all something to catch. Hard to line up the possible place-getters but going with Thump at a bit of value and hoping she sits closer to the speed than she has in previous starts. Montsegur will improve and Twilight Rose should be the swooper but, over six furlongs might find Sweet Idea that bit too nippy.
