The feature race of the day is the Randwick Guineas and sees a field of thirteen 3yo’s line up. Betting on Wednesday with Sportsbet was already competitive with G1 Australian Guineas winner Ferlax, drifting from $9 – $12. Rebel Dane, who ran Pierro to a short half head last start in the G2 Hobartville Stakes, is the reigning favourite at $2.80, out from an opening quote of $2.25 off the back of good support for Proisir who firmed from $3.75 into $3.20. It’ll makes for an intriguing race as the Autumn Carnival gets into full swing.

1. IT’S A DUNDEEL – J McDonald (2)
Really caught the eye late first up in the G2 Hobartville Stakes, rattling home from well back in the field to run fourth behind Pierro and Rebel Dane. The step up to the mile is an obvious bonus, as would be a drier surface and should he get those conditions, pay close attention to the $8.00 on offer.

2. TATRA – (12)
He is one of three runners for Pete Snowden and Darley, who made his return to racing also in the G2 Hobartville Stakes. Didn’t go a yard in the heavy conditions and struggled to finish second to last. Completely forgive that run but will have is work cut out for him here from the outside gate.

3. PROSIR – J Bowman (3)
A typically good first up effort when finishing third to Pierro and Rebel Dane (beaten 2.9 lengths) in the G2 Hobartville at Rosehill a fortnight ago. Drew the outside on that occasion and went forward to sit on the speed. Drawn much better here and can only be better for the first up hit-out.

4. FERLAX – B Prebble (8)
He remained unbeaten by winning the G1 Australian Guineas at his fourth start a fortnight ago, courtesy of a gem of a ride by Steve Baster. The son of Pentire continues to meet every challenge posed to him by his trainer Jim Conlan but from eight, may have to do a bit more work than he did last start and meets some of the best 3yo’s in the country here.

5. TOUGHER THAN EVER – J Cassidy (10)
He came from New Zealand to Chris Waller with an impressive record that including G1 and G3 wins. He’s had two starts for Waller and can’t knock either. First up fourth to Happy Galaxy in the G2 Expressway Stakes before being out-slogged late by Alma’s Fury in the Apollo Stakes three weeks ago, finishing a head away in second. Drawn awkwardly here and ran third to Sacred Falls at only start over the mile back in NZ.

6. SACRED FALLS – C Brown (9)
Another ex NZ’er who won the G1 NZ 2000 Guineas before being transferred to the Rosehill stables of Chris Waller. Well supported in his first Australian run but only managed fifth of nine behind Rebel Dane in the G2 Royal Sovereign Stakes almost a month ago. Looked in need of that run and of a lot more ground than the 1200m of that race and has already been very well supported firming from $17.00 – $10.00 on Wednesday when markets were posted.

7. REBEL DANE – J Collett (1)
Just keeps taking all before him does this son of California Dane from trainer Gary Portelli. He won five straight, including a sensational effort in the G2 Royal Sovereign Stakes two starts back before pushing Champion galloper Pierro all the way to the line in the Hobartville. Tackles a mile for the first time but who is to say what this bloke may be capable of?

Darley’s second runner who steadily made ground in the the Hobartville Stakes ran on heavy ground, to finish fifth (beaten 4.7 lengths). Ran third when second up over a mile last campaign to Proisir in the Spring Stakes but will giving most a start from his wide gate and best to wait for him to get beyond a mile.

10. SOLEMN – (6)
Winner of the Listed Geelong Classic (2200m) last Spring who, like both of his stable-mates here, made his return to racing in the Hobartville Stakes. Has expected, he found them too quick over the 1400m and probably will again here.

11. HIGH SHOT – (7)
Won a Cranbourne Maiden for trainer Mick Kent back in October before returning in the G2 Autumn Stakes, where he finished sixth behind Mulaazm and eighth at his most recent start of in a field of fifteen in the G1 Australian Guineas. Stable obviously has plans for him but would like to have seen more from him last start before including him in here.

Patinack Farm rep who ran a distant last in the G2 Royal Sovereign Stakes first up before running fifth in a Restricted race at Canterbury behind Time To Excite. Not here.

13. SHAWANO – (5)
Well bred colt by Redoute’s Choice but not living up to his bloodlines in five starts for trainer Anthony Cummings. Sat on the speed last start in a Restricted race at Newcastle before weakening late to run seventh of eleven. Nope.

OVERVIEW
Proisir leads out but as mentioned above, will not have to spend as much petrol as he did last week and a rolling mile second up looks ideal. He was posted at $3.75 when markets first opened Wednesday afternoon and by evening, he was into $3.00. See Rebel Dane and It’s A Dundeel as the clear dangers. Rebel Dane steps up to the mile but there appears to be no end to this horse’s ability and, from an inside draw, should be able to keep a close tab on Proisir. Ideally, would’ve like It’s A Dundeel to have drawn out a little further than barrier two. He may get back further than he has to from there and/or, need some luck in running but he only needs half a chance and his first up run was slashing. Sacred Falls, despite not having raced for a month and jumping form 1200 to a mile, has been sensationally supported early, firming from $17.00 into $10.00!
