Like their counterparts in the Vain Stakes, the fillies get their chance to shine as 3yo’s now in the Lister Quezette Stakes. As they do in the Vain, Darley hold a strong hand here with Montsegur ($8.50) and Metastasio ($6.00) however, there a plenty of chances among the thirteen entrants and the early market is headed by Peter Moody’s Spirit of Heaven at $5.00.

Quezette Stakes Form Guide

1. SCANDIVA – N Hall (12) 57.5kgs

2. MONTESGUR – K McEboy (6) 57.5kgs

Competed in the Blue Diamond series with the pick of her efforts of them, being her second placing behind Guelph in the Prelude before rounding out her 2yo season with victory in the G3 Thoroughbred Breeder’s. She had a very quiet trail back on July 19th and hasn’t been seen since. Had her chances during her 2yo races and would be happy to bet around her here.

Odds: $7.50

3. METASTASIO – C Williams (4) 56.5kgs

She won her first two races including the Listed Chairman’s Stakes this track/trip back in February before leading and then fading, when eighth in the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes. Spelled after the Blue Diamond and returned to racing with a second behind the impressive Gregers in a BM 78 at Moonee Valley a fortnight ago. Had to lug 60kgs at the Valley and had no trials leading into that run so could expect some significant improvement here.

Odds: $6.00

4. BULBULA – C Schofield (8) 56.5kgs

She won the Merson Cooper Stakes on debut back in November last year and in four subsequent runs, has been placed in the G3 Thoroughbred Classic and, before going for a spell, the Produce Stakes at Morphettville back in April. The daughter of Shamardal returns to racing here with no barrier trials but at double figure odds, should be kept safe.

Odds: $12.00

5. ZELLINDI – N Rose (13) 55kgs

Shea Eden trains this filly by Bel Esprit who, after winning a 2yo Open at Moonee Valley at her second start, went within a lip of claiming the Listed Dequetteville Stakes at Morphettville when second to Calcutta back in April. She had a barrier trail at her home track of Cranbourne earlier this week which she won but will have her work cut out for her here from the widest gate.

Odds: $15.00

6. SWING VOTE – B Prebble (10) 55kgs

Good winner on debut when she defeated the smart Twilight Royale by 1 ¼ lengths at Warwick Farm back in January. Her trainer Gai Waterhouse then immediately sent her south for a shot at the Blue Diamond Stakes and she did very well to run third behind the unbeaten Miracles Of Life and then, was spelled. Can’t knock her two starts and would not have had to come on much during her break to be right in the mix here.

Odds: $10.00

7. KISS A ROSE –          (3) 55kgs

Sebring filly from the Moody yard who on debut back in December last year, started 5/2 favourite in an Open class filly’s race. She drew wide, dropped out to the tail but made quite an impression when she rounded the field of seven runners up quickly to score by 1 ¾. That has been the only time we’ve seen the filly and she hasn’t trialled in preparation for her return but has been kept safe at $8.00

Odds: $6.50

8. SPIRIT OF HEAVEN –         (2) 55kgs

The second of Moody’s runners, this Savabeel filly is a half sister to Moody’s outstanding mare, Lights of Heaven. Whilst she has a long way to go to replicate the efforts of her older sibling, she started out in good style by winning a 2yo Fillies race by 1 ¼ lengths at Sandown’s Hillside track in July. Started 8/1 that day and it was on a heavy track but Moody immediately gave her a break in readiness for the spring. No trails since that win nine weeks ago but markets are taking no chances here and posting her the early favourite.

Odds: $4.40

9. JENNYFROMTHEBLOCK – M Rodd (9) 55kgs

After being well accounted for on debut in the 7news Plate at Flemington, this daughter of Kaphero was spelled and returned to racing eight months later to claim a Warracknabeal Maiden by a comfortable 2 ¾ lengths. She’s come to town for two subsequent runs and been well handled in races of far less than quality than this one. She’s likely to struggle on recent efforts.

Odds: $51.00

10. SE SAUVER – B Melham (5) 55kgs

Bel Esprit filly who returned to racing in a Sale Maiden close to a month ago now, running a head third to Hard Hat as the 4/5 on favourite. Had her chance at Sale and despite jumping from Maiden to Group company, only gets 1.5kgs in weight relief which will not be anywhere near enough to see her competitive here.

Odds: $10.00

11. LONGCHAMP BELLE – A McCabe (1) 55kgs

Broke through for her maiden win last start, her third, when scoring by ¾ length in a Mornington Maiden. Led all the way at Mornington and expect from her draw, connections will employ similar tactics here but it’s hard to see her holding off the challengers at this level.

Odds: $26.00

12. CHLOE IN PARIS –            (7) 55kgs

Exceed and Excel filly making her debut for trainer Ciaron Maher. From the well performed race mare Innovation Girl, would be inclined to respect this astute stable’s decision to kick her career of at this level. No trials but kept very safe at $11.00

Odds: $10.00

13. IMANANA – D Lane (11) 55kgs

More Than Ready filly who has only had the one start to date, and that was back March of this year in a restricted race at Sandown’s Hillside circuit. Trained by Russell Cameron, she was well supported and jumped at 7/2 but never raised her backer’s hopes, finishing well down the track. That was the last time we’ve seen here and impossible to include her among the hopes on her debut run.

Odds: $34.00

OVERVIEW

Hard to map this race as there are several capable of leading it they wanted to badly enough and, a few drawn out wide who generally race forward but may try and take a sit with the speed inside them. Going with a bit of value and Swing Vote. Her two runs earlier this year were very good with Miracles of Life being unbeaten and Twilight Royale going on to claim the G2 VRC Sire’s Produce. If she’s come on at all, she’ll be right in the mix and has the services of Melbourne Cup winning jockey, Brett Prebble. Have to respect Moody’s pair who both one start for one win but step up in grade on those victories here. In a very tough race, would be inclined to through Bulbula into a few multiples at double figure odds.
