With the Golden Slipper closing in, we get our chance here to see several of the leading chances as the fillies step out in the Group 2, Moet and Chandon Stakes. The Shaun Dwyer trained Villa Verde, who is currently $6.50 with Sportsbet for the Golden Slipper, returns to racing in an attempt to keep her unbeaten record in tact. She’ll have to account for Overreach who produced the most impressive win of the 2yo season thus far last start, when she claimed the Listed Widden Stakes by close to six lengths. That effort has her ruling favourite in the Golden Slipper market at $3.60 and together obviously, they dominated this market.

Moet and Chandon Stakes Form Guide
1. VILLA VERDE – H Bowman (3)
Defeated Overreach on debut when she won the Listed Debutante Stakes (1000m) in October of last year before following that effort up with a 2 ¾ length win in the 7News Plate. The daughter of Not A Single Doubt was then spelled with the Golden Slipper, firmly in the sights of Dwyer.
Odds: $2.60
2. OVERREACH – T Berry (5)
Ran second to Villa Verde on debut in the Listed Debutante Stakes (1000m) and immediately spelled by her trainer Gai Waterhouse. The daughter of General Nediym returned to racing in the Listed Widden Stakes and demoralised her opponents by 5 ¾ lengths. Has to be the one they have to beat.
Odds: $1.60
3. DIVA DEE – P Robl (1)
Encosta de Lago filly trained by Anthony Cummings who, despite some encouraging efforts, is still searching for that maiden win. Spelled after finishing fourth in the G3 Maribyrnong Plate in November and returned with a closing third (beaten 1 ½ lengths) behind Montsegur and Bulbula. Gets a nice run in behind the speed but can’t see her running down the two favourites.
Odds: $51.00
4. GO AGAIN – J Mott (2)
John Sadler brings this daughter of Husson up from Victoria after she recorded a narrow victory in a restricted race at Sandown a little over two weeks ago. Out of well performed mare Danehill Smile, she’ll probably win her fair share of races but can’t see this race being one of them.
Odds: $17.00
5. SPURRENDOUS – B Avdulla (4)
Patinack Farm is represented by this daughter of Shamardal out of the well performed and Listed winning mare, Spurcent. She was well supported in betting, firming from 6/1 to 9/2 on debut at Newcastle over 1200m and, after settling at the tail of the field, finished too well to record a narrow victory. It was a promising debut but runs into two very smart fillies here.
Odds: $51.00
6. CYRENIA – C Brown (6)
A Stratum filly out of the unraced Commands mare Camellias, who is under the guidance of Newcastle trainer Paul Perry. Set the speed on debut and battled on fairly for a third (beaten 1.6 lengths) behind Spurrendous.
Odds: $81.00
OVERVIEW
It’s a two horse race between Overreach and Villa Verde. Villa Verde holds a win over Overreach the only time the two have met however, you just could not be taken by Overreach’s effort in the Widden Stakes and she’ll turn the tables. Have a little on both of them in the Slipper market now rather than betting here.
