First of the two races on tonight’s card for three year old fillies, (the Fillies Classic being the other) and field of good depth and thirteen runners line up. Last start winner Cavalry Rose is the top weight and looking to make it back to back wins after leading all the way in the G3 Thoroughbred Classic a fortnight ago. She’ll face good competition in what should be a very competitive race.

William Crockett Stakes Form Guide

1. CAVALRY ROSE – N Rawiller (7)

Sydney-sider that struggled in her first two runs back this preparation after having shown promise in her 2yo season which included a second in the Magic Night Stakes. She bounced back in good style last start however after coming down to Victoria and leading all the way in claiming the G3 Thoroughbred Classic (1200m). Will push forward again and the Valley circuit should suit.

Odds: $3.70

2. ARMED FOR ACTION – J Cassidy (13)

Filly by Exceed and Excel who won the Listed Queen Adelaide as a 2yo at her second start and followed that up with a third in the in the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes behind Samaready.
Returned to racing as 3yo in September but hasn’t been sighted at her two runs back in the Cap D’antibes and G3 Champagne Stakes, beaten over nine lengths on each occasion. It would take some kind of form reversal.

Odds: $3.70

3. SNIPZU – C Williams (2)

Brisbane visitor who had her first interstate start in the G3 Thoroughbred Classic behind Cavalry Rose finishing sixth (beaten 3.1). Didn’t have much luck on that occasion and she only got clear room late and did finish the race off well. She might be one to watch.

Odds: $3.70

4. AGUEDA – D Oliver (6)

Filly by General Nediym who ran third in the Listed Heritage Stakes two starts back before showing brilliant speed to lead some handy sprinters last start at Rosehill (BM 80) and kept going to record a comfortable one and half length win. That was her second career win from eleven starts but she’s never far away, having only missed a place twice in those starts – and on both occasions she finished fourth. Will jump and run and give them plenty to catch.

Odds: $3.70

5. SATURN ROCK – G Boss (5)

She has finished third at each of her three starts this preparation. Firstly, in Open 3yo Fillies here at Moonee Valley behind Love For Ransom (beaten 1.5), then in the G3 Champagne Stakes behind Snitzerland (beaten 2.6) and at her most recent start, to Cavalry Rose (beaten 1.5) in the Thoroughbred Club. She’s nothing if not honest and her two runs here have been very good. She’s one that has to be included.

Odds: $3.70

6. PURPLE STORM – S King (3)

She broke her Maiden status two starts back at her fourth career start by dominated her rivals in a Geelong Maiden whish she won by 3 ¼. Came straight to town and a RST 68 event here at Moonee Valley three weeks back and, after a good run in transit, won comfortably by 1 ¼. Obviously an improving type and should get a nice run behind the pace from her good gate.

Odds: $3.70

7. MRS GRAY – C Schofield (1)

Had six starts as a 2yo and whilst she didn’t register a win, did run second in Open Company at Rosehill on her way to a respectable fifth (beaten 2 lengths) in this year’s Magic Millions behind Driefontein. She hasn’t been seen at the races since finishing eleventh of thirteen in the Magic Night Stakes and her trainer, David Hayes, has given her one soft Tatura trial in readiness for here.

Odds: $3.70

8. ROLL THE BONES – J Bowman (11)

Led and stuck on well in the Listed Reginald Allen two starts back behind Urban Groove (Cavalry Rose ran fourth) but, like she has done here, drew terribly in the G3 Thoroughbred Classic last start, got back and never figured. Dropping out didn’t help her cause last start and fancy they’ll have to commit to going forward but with plenty of speed on in this race, she may find herself in an awkward spot during the run.

Odds: $3.70

9. ANGELIC LIGHT – M Rodd (4)

Filly trained by Robbie Griffith who debuted in April in a Geelong Maiden before being spelled. Obviously enjoyed the break and won a Kilmore Maiden first up (by 3) and backed that up with, at her most recent start, another dominate win in a Echuca RST 68. This is a different ball game but is going well enough to have her shot at it.

Odds: $3.70

10. POTICHE – M Zahra (12)

She won her first two career starts – a Geelong Maiden and Geelong Class 1 – before coming to town and just holding her own at her most recent start here at Moonee Valley when fifth (beaten 2.8) behind Purple Storm. Drawn wide and would have to lift on her last start.

Odds: $3.70

11. VICARIO – C Newitt (10)

Debuted in a Sandown Open 2yo event as 6/4 favourite but finished second, so had obviously shown a bit of talent early but was immediately spelled. When then didn’t see her for seven months until she stepped out in and won (by a nose) in a Bairnsdale Maiden.

Odds: $3.70

12. SILKEN GLOW – D Dunn (8)

She’s had five career starts thus far with her only win coming three starts back in a Casterton Maiden on a Slow track. Would think she is aiming way too high here.

Odds: $3.70

13. LADY NHUNG – C Robertson (9)

An Elvstroem filly who has had two career starts for a fourth of nine in an Ararat Maiden and a second of seven in a Ballarat Maiden. She’s another that will find more than one of her competitors tonight, way too slick.

Odds: $3.70

OVERVIEW

There will be no loafing in this race with Agueda, Cavalry Rose jumping to front along with Roll The Bones who should cross from a wide gate. As she displayed last start and, as proven by her overall record, Agueda is a flyer who should find the Moonee Valley circuit very much to her liking. Give Snipzu a good chance here after her luckless run last start and the start prior, ran second behind the impressive Better Than Ready who ran a track record when winning at Randwick last week. She should get her chance from her draw and only requires a touch of luck to be able to figure in the finish.
