The seventh and feature race at Moonee Valley Friday night is the Group 2 Bill Stutt Stakes over 1600m. Unbeaten Pierro will have his first race in Victoria on his way to the Caulfield Guineas and Cox Plate and he has unsurprisingly opened very short and continues to receive support from punters. 1. PIERRO
Undefeated champion 2yo of last season who returned to racing with an emphatic win, under 60kgs, in the G3 Run To The Roses in Sydney four weeks ago. On that day he beat Your Song and Epaulette, the latter going on to win the G1 Golden Rose a fortnight back.Impossible to critique his record and looks set to make it eight wins from as many starts here.
Odds: $1.15
2. JIMANDO
He made it two from two this prep with a solid victory in the Listed Henry Bucks (1400m) at Flemington three weeks ago. An improving Commands colt who should get his chance form the inside draw.
Odds: $11.00
3. UNDERESTIMATION
Had recorded two Listed wins from five starts before kicking off this campaign with fifth in the Listed Vain Stakes on a Heavy track. Two subsequent runs have been off the mark including finishing last a week ago in an Open event at Caulfield behind Veewap. Better suited back to his own age but will have to improve significantly.
Odds: $41.00
4. ROAD TRIPPIN
He broke his maiden status two starts back at his eighth career start by winning a Bendigo Maiden. He followed that up last week with a fifth of thirteen behind Hvasstan in an Open 3yo race at Caulfield over 1700m. Would have to improve further to be winning here.
Odds: $31.00
5. PHILLIPI
Son of Host who was impressive in winning on debut at Mornington and he backed that up with a good effort when jumping straight to Open class a fortnight ago here at the Valley. Definitely has potential and given his finishing effort last start, the mile will be very much to his liking.
Odds: $12.05
6. CARRINGBUSH JACK
He won an Echuca Maiden at his second career start before coming to town and struggling on Slow and Heavy conditions which faced him at Sandown and Flemington respectively where finishing well down the track on both occasions. A better surface last start saw a much improved effort and after sitting second he fought on gamely, only being collared late by Phillipi late. Expecting him to roll forward again.
Odds: $41.00
7. ADJUSTER
Five starts and whilst yet to crack it for a win, has been competing well in some handy races. His most recent effort was here at the Valley a fortnight ago where, from his wide draw, they rode him forward for the first time and he stuck on well, beaten less than two lengths behind Phillipi. From a better draw, fancy they’ll adopt similar tactics again.
Odds: $41.00
8. HEY BIG BENDER
Lightly raced son of Refuse To Bend who is lining up for his fourth career start. His previous two efforts have been in Bendigo Maiden races over 1400m and more recently 1600m, where he finished a close third. Still has a way to go and is aiming high here.
Odds: $201.00
OVERVIEW
It’s impossible to go past Pierro so we’ll look at who might fill second and third – and even these selections seem to pick themselves. Phillipi for second. He’s show plenty at his two starts and think he’ll improve even further over the mile. For third – Jimando. Good last start and should get every chance from his draw.
