The sixth race on Saturday at Rosehill racecourse is the listed Premier’s Cup over 1800m. Stout Hearted has opened as the short priced favourite but has been easy in the market, we are looking for some value in the race. View our tips and selections for the Premier’s Cup.

1. FIUMICINO
The 9yo returned to racing a fortnight ago down in Melbourne finishing well down the over the unsuitable trip of 1400m in the Group 2 P B Lawrence. His second up record isn’t flash (six starts for one win) and you’d expect he’d need this run as well.
Odds: $34.00
2. PERMIT
He was in fine form last preparation winning four of seven starts including the Listed Manion Handicap (2400m) and Group 2 Chairman’s Handicap (2600m), before failing to finish in the Sydney Cup when starting at 7/2. Returned to racing a fortnight back in Open Company over 1400m and was only start to warm to his task when the race finished. He can produce a run second up having won one and running second from three attempts.
Odds: $15.00
3. THE VERMINATOR
Resumed from a nine week spell with an eleventh of thirteen over 1400m here at Rosehill a fortnight ago and wasn’t asked to do a great deal after drawing the widest gate. From a better draw and with that run under his belt we can expect an improved effort today.
Odds: $21.00
4. PRAECIDO
Won the Listed Parramatta Cup last prep over 2000m but that was only his second win from 28 starts. He did run well first up here a fortnight ago behind Kontiki Park and was good second up last campaign but the strike rate is certainly a worry.
Odds: $26.00
5. STOUT HEARTED
Has earned his shot at a Listed race courtesy of two good wins at his most recent starts. An emphatic 4.5 length win at Canterbury in a BM 87 and then, got the job in a professional manner in a BM 90 winning by ¾ This is a step up again but Sportsbet are taking no risk with him and have opened up as the clear $2.20 favourite.
Odds: $2.40
6. BRAVE THE WAY
Put together two very good wins (both on Slow Tracks) before dropping back in distance last start (2400m to 1800m) and holding his ground in the run home to finish fourth of seven, beaten 2.3 lengths. Drops 4kg on that run for today and fitness will be no concern. Should be finishing well late.
Odds: $10.00
7. NEXTANIX
Was very good when returning from a spell a fortnight back here at Rosehill where he finished second to Kontiki Park. There’s no doubting this horse’s ability as he has ran second in a Group 2, Group 3 and fourth in the Group 1 Sydney Cup but he does find it hard to actually win, having only registered two wins from 22 starts. He’ll be near to last in the run but given his chance, will be running on.
Odds: $9.00
8. GAZZA GURU
Honest campaigner who has had a tilt at a few of these Black Type staying events in the past with limited success. He chased home Stout Hearted last start finishing second (beaten ¾) but his last two wins were a Warwick Farm BM 85 event in June and prior to that, a Grafton Open race in July 2011.
Odds: $15.00
9. PEAL OF BELLS
Lightly raced 5yo son of Clangalang who last prep in six starts (of which he won four) went form a Gosford Maiden to a creditable sixth in the Group 1 Sydney Cup (beaten 3.1). Returned to racing and caught the eye here a fortnight ago finishing from well back in the field to run second behind Mon Soleil (beaten ¾. Barrier does him no favours but does seem to be an improving type.
Odds: $10.00
10. GLENCADAM GOLD
A former European stayer who won on debut for his new trainer, Gai Waterhouse at Canterbury a little over a fortnight ago. Lead on the occasion and showed good fight to claw his way back after being headed in the straight. Can only be better for that run and from the inside draw should jump to the front.
Odds: $3.60
OVERVIEW
This should be an interesting race with a few questions and form lines to consider. Glencadam Gold did win his Australian debut well and, having been nominated for the Caulfield Cup, connections obviously have big plan for him but after opening at $3.50 has already eased to $3.70. Stout Hearted has won well recently but this is a step up again and is currently quoted @ $2.25 and maybe worth either risking or waiting for a better price given it is his first attempt at this company. Maybe worth looking a further down the market to find some value and those who appeal are Brave The Way ($10.00) and Peal Of Bells ($11.00). The former is fit and in form having won two of his last three whilst the latter is a horse on the improve and showed he’s returned in good style with an eye-catching first up run.
