The feature race at Warwick Farm on Saturday is the Group 3 Missile Stakes. Just Horse Racing takes the time to provide a short review of each runner in the race as well as providing tips and selections.

Warwick Farm – 11th August 2012.

Race 6 – The McGrath Missile Stakes (Group 3), 1200m

3yo+ Open WFA

Special Offer #1: $300 LUXBET FREE BET

Special Offer #2: $250 SPORTSBET FREE BET

1. PINWHEEL (Peter Snowden) – K McEvoy (5)

The seven year old by Lonhro very rarely runs a bad race and in 32 starts has finished first or second on 19 occasions.

It’s been seven weeks since his last start fourth (beaten 2 lengths) in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap and he’s been prepared for his return with a customary quiet Snowden trial on the 30 July.

He’s drawn ideally in gate five to sit just off the pace.

Odds: $2.35

2. TITLE (J Pride) – Corey Brown (6)

Despite an average first up record of 1 win from 5 attempts, and a similar record at this track, Trainer Joe Pride was adamant during the week the addition of blinkers would see these stats improve.

Title did win the Listed Lightning Handicap first up in Blinkers back in October last year and had excuses on a Slow track when first up last prep.

He’s had two barrier trials leading into this, winning his latest with Corey Brown onboard.

Odds: $3.80

3. CENTENNIAL PARK (David Payne) – G Schofield (1)

The seven year old returns to racing for the first time since April this year and has his record indicates (7-3-2-0) can often produce a good run fresh.

First up last prep he chased home the smart Rain Affair in the Group 2, Expressway Stakes.

With the likes of Rolling Pin, Title and Welkom Gold all pushing forward, he’ll get a nice run in transit and if a bit of luck comes his way turning, he should finish well.

Odds: $7.00

4. ADNOCON (Gerald Ryan) – B Shinn (4)

Adnocon won the Listed Ascot Quality at Eagle Farm in good style two starts back before running into a wet track and finishing fifth in the Listed Tatt’s Mile.

The drop back from a mile to a slick 1200m in a space of a month will be a test but the prediction of a Good track will play into his favour.

Odds: $15.00

5. TAGUS (John Thompson) – C Reith (8)

The 8yo hasn’t competed since May 2011, where he finished third in the Group 3 Lord Mayor’s Cup (1615m) in QLD.

He has had two barrier trials (finishing 2nd and 3rd) in preparation for his return but with 58.5, the widest draw to contend with and the fact that he hasn’t won in 8 previous first up runs, a win here would surprise.

Odds: $13.00

6. WELKOM GOLD (Darren Smith) – P Robl (7)

He has been struggling to break through for a win this prep but not for the lack of trying.

He’s backing up from running second last start (Benchmark 95) to the ultra impressive Said Com. He led at Canterbury on that occasion and carried a similar weight today, despite the increase in class 58.5

From a wide draw today, he may have to be used up form the wide gate to lead but if so, will be exposed to the swoopers late.

Odds: $8.00

7. ROLLING PIN (G Markwell) – N Rawiller (3)

Returns to racing after a break of 21 weeks.

Kicked off last prep with a win, here at Warwick Farm on a Heavy track in Restricted company and continued to progress through his grades well.

Trainer Gwenda Markwell has picked a slick race for him resume in and his only start over this distance was his debut back in February last year.

Expect he’ll need this and a bit longer.

Odds: $11.00

8. STELLAR ACADEMY (D Wagstaff) – A Hyeronimus

They must have got the races mixed up for this bloke!

Ran ninth (beaten 7.7 lengths) in a Class 3 at Goulburn last start and quoted at 330/1

Odds: $331.00

OVERVIEW

$250 MISSILE STAKES FREE BET

Pace should be genuine with Title and Rolling Pin pushing forward and Welkom Gold crossing from a wider gate. Pinwheel and Centennial Park parked in behind them.

Keep coming park to Pinwheel who should get the run and has the record on the board. The weight condition of today’s race is also in his favour.

Joe Pride has certainly left no stone unturned in regards to his representative, Title. With the addition of Blinkers immediately and two strong trials, he’ll be handy throughout.

Centennial Park has a good record first up and from the inside draw, can be ridden a bit closer to the speed. He should be in a position on the turn to produce a finish.

  1. Pinwheel
  2. Title
  3. Centennial Park.
