The sixth race at Moonee Valley Friday night is the Group 2 A.J. Moir Stakes over 1200m. Buffering returns to the track from a lengthy break and will go into the race as the clear favourite. Tiger Tees and Atomic Foce are the only other runners in the field in single figures. View our full A.J. Moir Stakes tips and runner by runner preview.

1. GREEN BIRDIE
Slowly away from his inside draw here a fortnight ago when fifth, beaten 2 lengths behind Bel Sprinter who ran near track record time. That was his first run in a month and the step back up to 1200m suits but from his wide draw, fancy he’ll be giving some slick sprinters a start.
Odds: $31.00
2. BUFFERING
Ultra consistent galloper returns to racing and has drawn ideally in gate 2. Competed in five Group 1 races last prep and never missed a place. If he’s not leading, he’ll be camped right on the speed and if he is anywhere near his best, should prove very hard to beat.
Odds: $2.50
3. ATOMIC FORCE
He was first up here at the Valley a month ago in the Listed Carlyon Stakes and put in a good effort under 60kgs, in finishing fourth to Broken. He subsequently finished sixth of seven in the G3 Concorde Stakes in Sydney behind Tiger Tess. Will be able to take up a prominent position from his draw and generally runs well here but will need to bounce back after an average effort last start.
Odds: $9.00
4. THANKGODYOU”REHERE
Multiple Group 3 winner who has resumed his last two preparations in the G1 Galaxy for a fast finishing fifth (beaten 1.4) and second (behind Atomic Force) the year prior. He’ll get back from his wide draw and should be finishing well but with this being his first look at Moonee Valley and the fact his last three wins have been at 1400m+, think he’ll be better for this.
Odds: $10.00
5. READY TO RIP
Ex QLD galloper who, since joining Peter Moody’s yard at the start of this preparation, has recorded two wins (Listed Vic Sprint and G3 Bletchingly) and a third (G2 P B Lawrence) at his most recent start. Obviously going well but a slight concern about him drawing the inside as I don’t think he’ll have the speed to hold others out and that places him in awkward position around the tight Valley circuit.
Odds: $10.00
6. TIGER TEES
Resumed with a three length win in the G3 Concorde Stakes at Warwick Farm three weeks ago, beating Mrs Onassis and Satin Shoes, both running well since in good races. He’ll go forward, may even have try for the lead, and has proven by his record of nine wins from thirteen starts, can be very hard to run down.
Odds: $4.00
7. ELITE FALLS
Returns to racing here off a seventeen week spell. Ran a ripper of a race in the G1 Oakleigh Plate off a similar break last prep, beaten a nose by Woorim but her form tapered off in three subsequent runs. Has had the one trial in Sydney in preparation for this, a well beaten third. Has ability but has only won 2 of her 14 career starts – both 2yo races and expect that under these weight conditions, she’ll find it harder than others.
Odds: $12.00
8. PLATELET
Handy sprinter from the Darren Weir yard who has won three of his last five starts including the Listed Sir John Monash Stakes in July. Ran a great race here at his most recent outing when finishing second behind the smart Bel Sprinter running good time.
Odds: $12.00
OVERVIEW
Buffering leads with Tiger Tees and Platelet coming across from mid-field. Atomic Force and Ready To Rip handy. Hard to go past Buffering given his race record and that fact that, if he does lead, will be a winning position as they turn. Tigers Tees is a tenacious type whose racing pattern should suit the Valley. Expect Atomic Force to bounce back with a better effort and Thankgodyou’rehere to be finishing hard out wide.
