Everybody’s got a Melbourne Cup story. From just misses to omen bets to big wins, the Race That Stops A Nation inspires some amazing tales both on and off the track.
Tuesday’s remarkable victory by longshot Prince of Penzance brought joy to the connections, trainer Darren Weir, jockey Michelle Payne and her brother Stevie.
It also brought happiness to one Sportsbet.com.au punter, who had the foresight to put Prince of Penzance into a boxed trifecta – believe it or not, he ended up with more than $166,685.
LG of Melbourne invested $50 into a boxed trifecta which included Criterion, Max Dynamite and Prince of Penzance.
When the horses thundered towards the finish line, LG would have been overjoyed to see the three he selected cross the line at the front of the field.
Prince of Penzance, of course, finished first, followed by Max Dynamite and Criterion.
And LG would have been celebrating, after turning $50 into more than $166,685!
