Gallic Chieftain has been well backed to win today's Geelong Cup
It has been one-way traffic for tomorrow’s Geelong Cup with Gallic Chieftain a well backed favourite.
Gallic Chieftain has firmed slightly from $3.30 into $3.20, but holds the most money with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au.
The Darren Weir trained five-year-old is also rated a $51 chance for the Melbourne Cup.
Not a lot separates Kellstorm ($5.50) and Wheal Leisure ($7.00), but Gallic Chieftain holds almost three-times more money.
Last year’s runner-up, Grey Lion has plenty of admirers and is steady at $8.50.
“The European imports have a good record in the Geelong Cup and punters are right on to Gallic Chieftain. This race can also be a solid pointer to the Melbourne Cup so if Gallic Chieftain does win then his odds for the great race will probably shorten,’’ said sportsbet.com.au’s Will Byrne.
