Country Cup racing continues this Friday, with the Mount Gambier Cup (2050m) looking an intriguing edition on paper.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 Mount Gambier Cup.
2025 Mount Gambier Cup Runner Preview:
1. Sebonna: Has to lump the weight but there is a reason for that. He is the class of the field, by some distance, and was a strong winner in town last time. The draw does makes things tricky but he has to be respected as one of the leading contenders.
2. Ferago: SCR
3. Flying Basil: Strong on speed wins his past two in the Hanging Rock and Naracoorte Cups respectively. But, there does appear to be more depth this time around and he will get more front end pressure. I am happy to oppose.
4. Hasta La Fiorente: He didn’t fire a shot in the Edenhope Cup last time out and was never a factor. Good record at Mount Gambier and his best is clearly good enough. Watch betting.
5. Goliotus: Just a run fresh at The Valley and for mine, needs more racing.
6. Unthinkable: Looked to have every chance in the Wangaratta Cup but this race looks to have much less depth and the stable are very good when they hop the border. Tricky gate, but has to be respected.
7. Lake’s Folly: No rider as of Thursday afternoon so I assume not running. But, if he runs, he should be favourite.
8. Rich Champagne: Mare that is absolutely flying at present. Just depends if they run here or elsewhere given she is dual accepted. If she runs here, she is one of the leading contenders.
9. Imposing Suspect: Got the righr run in transit and finished best to win at Murray Bridge last time. Last start metro winner does read well for a Country Cup, but the gate does make things tricky.
10. Crafty Boss: Knockout hope. He was very good late in the Country Mile Final last Saturday at Caulfield behind Electric Belle. He is humming at present and is racing like 2000m will suit. Definite threat.
11. Eureka’s Victory: Not sure he beat much in the Kangaroo Island Cup but he was dominant from the front, giving nothing else a look in. He’ll cop more front end pressure here but is proven at 2500m so 2050m here is no issue.
12. Any Luck: Wayne Walters at Mount Gambier = respect always. But, this mare, whilst racing well, is finding it hard to win. Pass for me.
13. Dr Dee Dee: Didn’t fire a shot in the Eedenhope Cup. Not for me against these.
14. Space Equity: Outclassed in the Lord Reims and is much better suited here, but I don’t think he’s threatening.
15. Stay In Your Lane (First Emergency): Doesn’t measure up in 58 races. That says enough.
2025ย Mount Gambier Cup $100 Betting Strategy:
$100 Win Crafty Boss.
2025ย Mount Gambier Cup Speed Map
I think the tempo here will be quite genuine. Eureka’s Victory likes to settle on speed but will have pressure. Rich Champagne, Flying Basil will press forward as well, and out wide, the likes of Goliotus and Any Luck will want to force the issue.
