A TAB punter is expecting Russian Camelot to show his class on Tuesday after plonking $20,000 the win and $5000 the place at $13/$4 on the Danny O’Brien-trained horse in Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup at Flemington.
The TAB customer in question will collect $280,000 if Russian Camelot wins the race that stops a nation.
Russian Camelot finished second to Arcadia Queen in the Caulfield Stakes on October 10 and third to Sir Dragonet and Armory in the Cox Plate on October 24.
The $25,000 in total placed on Russian Camelot is the biggest bet TAB has received on the Melbourne Cup since betting opened minutes after Vow And Declare was successful last year.
Before the recent bet on Russian Camelot, the biggest wager on the 2020 Melbourne Cup at TAB was a $7000 each-way bet at $9/$3 on Sir Dragonet.
“Russian Camelot was holding equal or outright favouritism for the Melbourne Cup from mid-May until October 10 when he finished second in the Caulfield Stakes and Tiger Moth became favourite after that race,” TAB’s Trent Langskaill said.
“The TAB punter with a potential $280,000 collect hopes Russian Camelot can replicate the deeds of Fiorente in 2013 when he was third in the Cox Plate before taking out the Melbourne Cup.”
