The feature at the Gold Coast this Saturday is The Sunlight (1100m), where Grafterburners dominates betting.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2026 The Sunlight.
2026 The Sunlight Runner Preview:
1. North England: North England is a good horse, I am convinced of that. He can take this out if he brings his best. He had one run in the Spring, which came in the Run To The Rose when down the track and never really a factor. Given a good break and his trial work has been strong. I think he has to be an each way bet.
2. Grafterburners: It’s hard to get away from what Grafterburners has done this time in. Three-from-three this prep, two back winning the Winning Rupert beating Ninja, before winning the Gold Edition and confirming his spot in this race. Back to 1100m is a slight query but they will go hard in front and it should set up for him to sit off the pace and launch late over the top.
3. Blitzburg: Wasn’t really a factor in the GC1000 behind Swordplay after getting back in the run. Tick-over trial and from all reports he worked super earlier this week. I doubt he is good enough to win but can run first four.
4. Nashville Jack: The Bible would struggle to have as many words as what is required to list the gear changes for this horse. There is an absolute plethora. He has talent and has been set for the race, just don’t think he’s good enough.
5. Ice Kool: Is this Private Harry 2.0? He could be a rocket. Did he beat much at Randwick? No, but he smashed the clock and burned the candle at both ends. He is a very good horse, but I just feel this is too much too soon.
6. Savvy Hallie: Market likes her given she does have proper form around her. My query is whether she needs it wet because while she handles dry ground, she is far more effective when getting her toe in.
7. Akaysha: Brings the Point Barrow form, which could well be elite form. Tick-over trial was strong, maps to do no work and be effective late. Commands respect.
8. Foreign Press: Loved the way she toughed it out to win the Mode Stakes but I just don’t think she is up to this class of race.
9. Swordplay: She is a rocket who will press forward. If she leads, she’ll run well. But I doubt she leads and I reckon 1100m at this level is too much for her.
10. Get Ready Lass: Good ticker to win the maiden at Gosford but this looks too hard.
11. Sylph: Sylph commands respect given she ran a narrow second in the Gold Edition, trying her guts out from just off speed but just couldn’t quite get past the in-form Grafterburners. I doubt she can turn the tables but runs well regardless.
12. Kiss Goodnight: Short enough but can understand why. T Berry on, hard fit and can press forward, be strong late. Outclassed in The Ingham, but a tick-over trial was pretty good and her best is clearly good enough to threaten.
