Has there ever been a more glaring omen wager than what we see at Canberra races this afternoon?
It’s a quinella bet, and will return a healthy dividend if it gets up.
The horses are FENECH (Redoute’s Choice-National Colour) and BOXING (Written Tycoon-Many facets) in race 3.
For those who don’t get it, the horse Fenech was named after International Hall Of Fame boxer Jeff Fenech, who had 29 fights for 3 losses. He won World Titles in 3 weight divisions and at 48 years of age came out of retirement to beat former World Champion Azumah Nelson in a points decision.
His namesake horse should be winning at Canberra also.
He’s started just once, for a fighting 4th in a very strong maiden at Wyong. The winner has since won again and the 2nd horse has twice been placed since the race.
So off this good draw he looks to win today but what of his omen quinella partner, Boxing?
He’s locally trained by Rob Potter but has failed to place in all 5 starts to date.
He likes to lead and from gate 1 should do that today. Fenech will sit off him then belt by him late.
We then just pray the universe sees the omen and gives Boxing the strength, at $41, to hang on for 2nd.
