Country Cup racing continues this Saturday, with the Kerang Cup (1800m) attracting a small but strong field.

2025 Kerang Cup Runner Preview:
1. Independent Road: He is the best horse in the race and will love the drop back in grade/depth after racing in the Yarra Valley Cup at The Valley last time. Just has to bring somewhere near his best and he wins.
2. The Nephew: Hasn’t raced since March 7 when plain over 3000m at The Valley. I reckon jumping might be his go so I am saying he may need this run.
3. Star Buyer: Gave them a start and a beating to win the Gundagai Cup last start, producing a strong finale from off the speed to score. He’ll get a beaut run just off the speed and hard to knock the way he’s racing.
4. Notmeanttobe: He ran at Kilmore on Thursday and was brave in defeat when third. But, that was over 1457m and in a much weaker race than this. He goes through to the keeper.
5. Cadazio: He has looked like a hurdler in both runs this time in and I think the ambulance will beat him home.
6. Off The Deep End: Didn’t beat much in a weak 58 at Avoca last time but credit to him, he found when required to get the win. He goes straight to Country Cup grade, but this isn’t a strong race. He can run well.
7. Artrese: SCR
8. Lonfire: Didn’t do a bad job at Sale last time but I think he wants something easier than this.

Independent Road should lead and lead comfortably. Notmeanttobe can settle handy too, maybe lead, but I don’t think will want to get into a battle with the Team Hayes veteran. Star Buyer should lob into a beaut spot in behind.
