The big guns were out and firing on Friday at morning and a couple of classy Gai Waterhouse runners caught my eye the most. Find out who down below:

Randwick- Friday, July 31, Weather Fine, Track Soft 5.

Heat Two- Vancouver (1st):

The Slipper winner has trialled a few times without blinkers and gone terribly. But without them now as a three year old, and the improvement he has taken from a spell was there to see in this trial. He showed good speed to lead the trial and he was niggled along in the straight by Tommy Berry but he was holding his rivals and doing it comfortably. Just wait til a set of blinkers go back on…he’ll be unbeaten in Sydney ala Pierro before he went to Melbourne. Superstar.

Heat Three- Temple Of Boom (1st) and English (3rd):

Training in Sydney is really bringing out the best in the old boy Temple Of Boom, who led all the way here and was pushed out a touch by Winona Costin, but the Group l performer did it very nicely, but not as nicely as the Slipper runner up, who just coasted to the line late under a big hold from Blake Shinn. Her brilliance might win her a couple of fillies races at Group l level, but sprinting is her caper, and she is the next big thing in the Australian sprinting ranks IMO.

Heat Five- Better Land (1st):

Second time in a row he has made the file. He sat last in this particular trial before trucking up behind the leaders in the straight. He got a split about 150m from home, burst through and went on to win the trial impressively under a good hold from Avdulla. Hopefully we can see the best of him this Spring.

Heat Six- Haptic (1st):

Joint with Vancouver and English as the best of the morning. He won this trial very easily, leading all the way to victory under triple wraps from Tim Clark. He is the pick of the Godolphin youngsters that we have seen come back. Very impressive and he could well take the next step.
