Randwick- Tuesday, February 10, Weather Fine, Track Good 4:
Heat Three- Avoid Lightning (2nd):
Β
Classy mare who looked in outstanding order here after a close second to Kirramosa, settling off the speed before cutting back to the inside and attacking the line with real purpose under a good hold from Tim Clark. Problem with her is that there are no big sprint races for mares in Sydney, so she could go to Adelaide for the Robert Sangster, and I think she’d be unbeatable there.Β
Heat Five- Speak Fondly (1st):Β
I made her a blackbooker from the previous set of trials here, and she again goes in because she just looks so impressive. She sat outside the leader here and when given a dig in the ribs by McEvoy in the straight, the Gai Waterhouse filly zipped clear and won very easily. She’s a serious Slipper contender, but she’d need to win a lead up due to her low amount of prize money. If she does win a lead up, she’ll be a more than worthy contender for the major.Β
Heat Seven- Ooh La La (1st):Β
She ran a couple of weeks back at Warwick Farm in a maiden and finished midfield, but gee on her trial win here, a win is near. She sat a clear last in the run before Blake Shinn peeled her out wide, gave her a squeeze and she just blitzed her rivals, winning by over two lengths. Clearly the best of the morning.Β
Heat Nine- Villa Verde (2nd):
Β
This mare had a light Spring and she looks to be set for a decent Autumn after a pleasing trial here, settling on the back of the speed before peeling wide and just going through her gears under a good hold from James McDonald. She’ll come into her own if it’s a wet Autumn, but nonetheless this was a good trial.Β
Heat Eleven- Run Louie Run (3rd):Β
This David Vandyke runner has only had one career start, back in November when fourth to Mine Two, and he looks to have come back a much better after running third in this trial, setting well back in the run before making ground near the inside and doing it quite nicely under a triple wraps from McEvoy. Keen to see where he kicks off his prep.
