Caulfield – Tuesday, February 10 (Polytrack):
Heat One- Petite’s Reward (1st):
This is an unraced youngster for Brendan McCarthy. The daughter of Reward For Effort showed good speed to sit outside the leader, before putting it away on the turn and winning under a good hold. The stable has produced some handy two year olds this season, but on face value, this looks the most impressive. Lovely piece of work.
Heat Two- Divine Stryke (2nd):
Another unraced filly stepping out here, trained by Byron Cozamanis. She jumped very well to lead. Looked as if she was going to hold on, but the eventual winner was under a good hold while the winner was ridden along. The time was pretty solid compared to the rest of the heats, so I’ll keep an eye on her.
Heat Four- Peron (1st):
She’s always looked good in trackwork, and Peron continued it here with a lovely jump out win, sitting handy between runners before taking the lead early in the straight and winning under double wraps from the rider. She is nominated for the T J Smith, so Peter Moody has some lofty ambitions for her. Not sure she can reach that level, but she’ll be more than competitive in mares races.
Heat Five- Ulmann (5th):
This Mark Kavanagh three year old wasn’t far away from them in a Stakes race during the Cup Carnival. The son of Sebring jumped out the back, peeled to the outside fence and worked home very strongly under no pressure from Nolen to run fifth. He is rated at 63, so maybe the provincials is where he’ll kick off, and he’ll be hard to beat.
Heat Six- Testability (3rd):
This unraced daughter of Testa Rossa for John Sadler looked pretty good here, settling last in the run before peeling to the outside fence, given a reminder with the whip by the rider and attacked the line very strongly to run third, beaten about a long neck. Really liked the way she responded when asked for an effort, and looks as if she’ll be winning races for sure.
