Gatting’s victory at triple figure odds in the Makybe Diva Stakes wasn’t totally unexpected.

One TAB customer boxed just four runners in the Group One feature (6,13,12,1) and after Gatting won at $139.60 on the NSW tote, their $24 outlay returned them 100 percent of the dividend ($22,725).

The result in the TAB Highway (r1 @ Rosehill) was rough but one customer’s shrewd $15 outlay pocketed them a tick over 10k.
Boxing 5 runners (6,9,10,12,13), the NSW customer collected 255 of the Trifecta which returned a huge $41,213.30.

It was a rough start to the day with Haames landing the money in the TAB Highway (1400 metres) at big odds.

The Colt Prosser runner was a big drifter on the day and went from $12 on Wednesday to $18 this morning but by the time the raced rolled around, $34 was on offer.

Jockey Andrew Adkins stuck to the inside lanes on Haames and got the bob down right on the line to beat Storm Attack ($14-$11) which was nibbled at eachway odds. Poor Corner, which attracted some specking late at triple figure odds, was $126-$81-$101 and ran a bottler in front to hold third.

Gem Dealer ($4.20) went around as the most popular horse and held twice as much as Autumn Ridge ($7) while Weather Channel ($11-$13-$8.50) was a good go in the final 10 minutes of betting.

Shock Alert went around as the most popular runner in the Everest Carnival Handicap (1800 metres).

The Bjorn Baker runner went around with approximately 33 percent of the total investment. After tracking the speed set by Perfect Rhyme, jockey Nash Rawiller got to work in the straight and got everything out of the gelding as the pair held off money runner Humboldt Current ($4.20-$3.40) in a great finish.

Lady Cuvee ($12) wound up in third.

BETS: Shock Alert $2,200 @ $2.80

In what was one of the widest betting races of the day, it was Irukandji that gave Bjorn Baker a running double.

The gelding started a $4.40 favourite in the Hyland Race Colours Handicap (1500 metres) but the real story was the fact it opened at $9 on Wednesday.

One of the first horses backed, Irukandji bottomed out at $4 this morning and was one of the best supported in the race alongside Juventus ($6.50-$4.80).

The pair came away to fight out the finish with Irukandji just holding off Juventus, with Angel Of Heaven ($10) hitting the line nicely for third.

Oneness, another of the Baker runners, was $9-$5.50 late while Adana ($3.30-$5.50) was a noted drifter.

BETS: Irukandji $2,000 @ $4.20

One of the first real popular picks today in Dabiyr let its backers down in the Rosehill Bowling Club Handicap (2400 metres).

The Chris Waller runner was nearly six times as popular as anything else in the race and was responsible for 60 percent of the total investment.

Doing all the work outside the leader, Dabiyr hit the front early in the straight but couldn’t repel the challenge of Gayatri ($8.50-$10). Costello, a $6 chance, was a closing third in front of Mrs Madrid ($14).

BETS: Gayatri $1,000 @ $10

BETS: Dabiyr $12,500 @ $2.15, $3,000 @ $2.15 MULTIPLE TIMES

Just Thinkin led throughout to claim the Dulcify Stakes (1500 metres).

Rated a treat by Tim Clark, the Waterhouse-Bott runner did attract some money but was overshadowed by the likes of True Detective and Castel Santangelo.

Just Thinkin ($8.50-$11) held off the finish of Subedar ($9) which had the sit on it for most of the trip. Shadow Hero ($19) rattled home for third in front of another eye-catcher in Castel Santangelo ($2.80-$5) which had the blows.

True Detective ($4-$3) was the most popular runner in terms of money taken with Castel Santangelo next best in that regard. There was a late push for Superium ($7.50-$6).

BETS: Just Thinkin $1,000 @ $9, $1,000 @ $8.50

BETS: True Detective $5,000 @ $3

Bivouac repaid his followers with a dominant win in The Run To The Rose (1200 metres).

The Godolphin runner was a beaten odds-on pop last time out but here, he was supported from $4.40-$4 and did all the work outside the leader to prove too strong.

Josh Parr rated the son of Exceed And Excel a treat as the pair beat Yes Yes Yes ($6.50) and hot favourite Exceedance ($2.15-$2.40) in third.

Team Hawkes’ glamour colt was five times as popular as the winner and held 57 percent of the total investment.

BETS: Bivouac $2,000 @ $4

BETS: Exceedance $40,500 @ $2.40, $10,000 @ $2.30

Arcadia Queen did the right thing by favourite backers in the Tooheys Theo Marks Stakes (1300 metres).

Chris Waller’s stable rep was a very popular pick in this race but the big money didn’t arrive until late. She hovered around the $1.90 mark for most of today before jumping at $1.95.

James McDonald unleashed the WA mare midway down the straight and she put paid to her rivals, racing clear to beat Trope ($5.50) which came from near last, and Gem Song ($15).

Trope, which was second most popular, only held a quarter of the money that Arcadia Queen did. She was responsible for 60 percent of the total investment.

BETS: Arcadia Queen $10,000 @ $1.95 TWICE, $5,000 @ $1.95

Mizzy continued the good run enjoyed by Anthony Cummings in the Schweppes Sheraco Stakes (1200 metres).

The talented mare was taken straight to the front by Tommy Berry, with the pair fighting off all challengers to beat Fasika and Champagne Cuddles.

Mizzy ($4.80-$5) was pretty solid today after opening at $10 earlier in the week.

Fasika was the most popular horse though, going around with 35 percent of the total investment.

BETS: Mizzy $2,000 @ $5.50

BETS: Fasika $12,500 @ $3.50

Spanish Dream led throughout in the Fugen Constructions Sprint (1100 metres) to end the day on a rough result for punters.

The Paul Cave-trained runner was rated perfectly by Kathy O’Hara and landed at $26 as they held off Star Boy ($14) and God Of Thunder ($2.20).

Punters largely flocked to God Of Thunder to get the job done in the final event, the fav holding a tick over half the market and being leveraged through multis.

All Too Royal ($4.80-$7) had admirers but blew out late while Beau Ideal ($10-$8) was kept safe.

BETS: God Of Thunder $5,000 @ $2, $2,000 @ $2 MULTIPLE TIMES

BETS: All Too Royal $2,000 @ $6

Alfarris got in the way of a handy little move coming off in the Very Special Kids Pin And Win Plate (2500 metres).

Ventura Storm, $19 in the morning, had constant eachway support throughout the day and eventually jumped a $9.50 chance in a race where there were six runners under double figures.

Alfarris ($7.50-$10), ridden by Luke Nolen, stuck to the rails and got out in clear air midway down the straight, finishing too well to hold off Ventura Storm and Naval Warfare ($9-$15).

The Hayes, Hayes & Dabernig stable claimed the quinella in this race but favourite backers weren’t on good terms with themselves. King Of Leogrance went $2.60-$3.10 late and held nearly three times as much as anything else.

Of the others, Caliburn came in for good backing at around the $5.50-$6 mark while Harrison ($6-$9.50-$7) firmed late.

Late money told the story here with Wayupinthesky the subject of several big bets late.

The Team Snowden runner was $5-$4.40 and went around as the second most popular runner behind Absolute Flirt ($5-$4.60). Ultimately the pair would fight out the finish but Wayupinthesky didn’t look in danger of defeat as Absolute Flirt charged late.

Athiri ($7.50) grabbed third in front of Lankan Star ($17).

Astute punters could have secured as much as $10 for the winner earlier in the week.

Of the rest, Vincere Volare ($9) attracted good eachway support with only the first two across the line holding more money with TAB Fixed Odds.

BETS: Wayupinthesky $1,000 e/w @ $4.40/$1.90

Legionnaire was one of the least favoured runners in the Antler Luggage Exford Plate (1400 metres).

Although coming in for some backing ($26-$23) earlier in the day, Legionnaire went out late to start at $34. Only Creator held less money than the winner.

Jamie Mott got everything out of the John Moloney runner to hold off the finish of Snapdancer ($21) and Tenley ($6.50).

Peidra ($12-$8.50) was a notable firmer while Missile Mantra $4.60-$3.70) was easily the most popular.

BETS: Missile Mantra $4,000 @ $3.70

BETS: Tenley $1,000 @ $6.50

Punters collected nicely in The Sofitel (1400 metres) with the well-tried Rox The Castle doing the job.

Ridden a treat by Craig Williams, Rox The Castle was a very popular $3.30 favourite despite getting out late in the betting. At one point, $2.90 had been available.

Rox The Castle pulled out plenty at the finish to beat Travimyfriend ($61) and Romancer ($14).

There was a move for Mr Money Bags ($14-$8) while Tarwin ($7.50) was the second most popular runner in the race outside the winner.

BETS: Rox The Castle $10,000 @ $3.30

Dalasan did the right thing by favourite backers in the Danehill Stakes (1200 metres).

The Leon McDonald & Andrew Gluyas runner held nearly 60 percent of the market and attracted a number of big bets.

Sitting on speed for most of the trip, jockey Raquel Clark got busy over the concluding stages and the pair overhauled the leader Dubious ($10) with money runner Express Pass ($8.50-$6) winding up in third.

Super Seth ($3.80-$4.80), the second pick in the market, was unplaced and held less than a fifth of the money that the winner did.

BETS: Dalasan $3,000 @ $2.60, $8,000 @ $2.50

Most of the money here was with Fidelia which went around as one of the most popular horses all afternoon.

Fidelia was more than four times as popular as anything else and a dominant $3.40 pick in front of Fundamentalist ($5.50-$4) while My Pendant ($4-$6.50) was a drifter.

Spanish Whisper ($7) had admirers and was third most popular in the race. After being given a gun trail fourth in running, jockey Mark Zahra pulled her out on straightening and she proved too strong for Miss Siska ($12) and the unlucky Fidelia which flashed home along the inside for third.

BETS: Spanish Whisper $1,000 @ $6.50

BETS: Fidelia $5,000 @ $3.80, $10,000 @ $3.70, $3,500 @ $3.70, $5,075 @ $3.50, $5,000 @ $3.50

It was a boilover in the Group One Makybe Diva Stakes (1600 metres).

Gatting, at odds of $126, held off the heavily tried Mystic Journey to take out the feature and give trainer Darren McAuliffe his first major success.

Jamie Kah got the best out of the WA-trained galloper, relegated Mystic Journey ($1.95) to second while Mr Quickie ($34) rattled home to grab third.

Mystic Journey held more money than any horse in Australia today and was six times as popular as the next best backed runner, which happened to be Hartnell ($11).

Outside of that, Scales Of Justice ($4.40-$4-$4.40) had solid backing throughout the day while Kings Will Dream ($18-$12) was a firmer too.

BETS: Mystic Journey $9,500 @ $2, $3,000 @ $2

BETS: Hartnell $1,000 @ $10 TWICE, $10,000 @ $9.50

The move for Zoutori was spot on in the Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200 metres).

Opening the day as an $8 chance, Zoutori firmed into $5 which made it second pick in the market behind Demerara ($5-$4.20).

Trained by Mathew Ellerton & Simon Zahra, Zoutori handled the straight best to defeat Parsifal ($11) and Dothraki ($14).

While the winner was the most notable firmer in the race, Demerara was easily the best tried while Malibu Style ($7-$8.50) came in for good backing throughout the day. There was also a sneaky little go on Glenall ($15-$10).

BETS: Zoutori $1,500 @ $5.50,$1,000 @ $5
