One of the key races this Saturday at Rosehill is the Hobartville Stakes (1400m), highlighted by the return of Caulfield Guineas victor Autumn Boy.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2026 Hobartville Stakes.
2026 Hobartville Stakes Runner Preview:
1. Autumn Boy: Autumn Boy is a class colt for Chris Waller and confident he can resume a winner. He hasn’t raced since his Caulfield Guineas triumph, getting a peach from D Lane and finished best to score. Given the good break and he has looked very strong in trials. Hard to beat.
2. Attica: Attica is a good colt in his own right. Joe Pride trained three year old that was very dominant towards the end of Spring, culminating in the Spring Champion triumph. That coincided with the Blinkers being applied. They haven’t been on in the trials and he has looked plain. But he’s got runs on the board to command respect.
3. Wodeton: Very interested in Wodeton. He was left flat footed when they sprinted in the Eskimo Prince but loved the way he kept chasing. I’ve been near the front of the queue to say he’s overrated, but I think the return was quite encouraging and relative to others in betting, he should be much closer IMO.
4. Shangri La Boy: Shangri La Boy is a GaiBott three year old that resumes. Dominant win in the Gloaming before going to the Spring Champion when on speed and was hailed as the winner but was nabbed near the peg by Attica. Three trials under the belt signals clear intent, he’ll press forward and take beating.
5. Napoleonic: I think his time to shine was the Eskimo Prince and he bumped into a rocket, Tempted. I do have my doubts on him at 1400m, but he should get front end control, box seat at worst and getting every chance.
6. Rivellino: He was okay late in the Eskimo Prince and is suited up to 1400m but I do have a few others ahead of him.
7. Ninja: I can’t believe he is favourite. Yes, was spectacular in the Vo Rogue and should have won the 3YO Magic Millions, but really, those races were horrendous vs what he faces here. Residual fitness and a kind map…but surely you take him on.
8. Green Spaces: Think he is a really good horse who will get better over further, but quality wise, he’s right up to these. One for exotics.
9. Dusty Bay: If they went to the Provincial Championships, he’d be nearly top seed. He’s not up to these.
10. Journeyman: SCR

I think Napoleonic and Shangri La Boy are the 1-2 in run early, potentially in that order. Dusty Bay settles handy, likely box seat…do they give Wodeton a dig in the ribs? Or do they opt for a sit.
