Hobart Cup 2025 – Field, Odds, Horses, Tips, and Betting Preview

A small but select field has been assembled for the Hobart Cup (2400m) this Sunday.

Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 Hobart Cup.

2025 Hobart Cup Runner Preview:

1. Goldman: Led and fought hard to win the Pakenham Cup two back before going to the Bagot where he led and tried hard, but felt the pinch late behind Grand Pierro. Not sure he has the change up speed to win but if he makes it a 2400m contest, he comes into play.

2. Promises Kept: Promises Kept is the pick of the traditional lead ins, bolting up in the Summer Cup. The ratings/data boys and girls say it was a career peak and the horse really seemed to react under the hard riding of Foley. He’s found winning form, his confidence is up, he can go on with it.

3. Alhambra Lad: Alhambra Lad is a Tassie veteran for Team Payne and is capable with his best. He comes through the Summer Cup behind Promises Kept when back off the speed and seemed to have his chance, just whacking to the line late in the piece. Up in trip I like and is a knockout hope.

4. Strawberry Rock: Got back in the run and worked home well in the Summer Cup when second to Promises Kept. Does he turn the tables? I say no, but is a must for exotics.

5. Arugamama: Arugamama is a capable mare for Andrew Gluyas that ran behind Shaiyhar a few weeks back at Flemington. She did early work from the wide gate but she stayed on and was game in defeat when running fourth, beaten just over two lengths. Better run in transit here, she can win.

6. Kaliuwaa Falls: Similar to Strawberry Rock. Back in the Summer Cup and made up decent headway without threatening. This is a different level though and I can’t see him measuring up and threatening.

7. Ashy Boy: Thought it was a very negative ride in the Summer Cup and the run had merit. He has a gate to use, can settle on speed and his best is good enough to run a cheeky race at a price. One for exotics.

8. Travelling Gigolo: Didn’t do a bad job in the Summer Cup but the Victorian raiders look better.

Ashy Boy has early speed but I would be stunned if he went toe to toe with Goldman for GaiBott, who races best when leading. I suspect he leads, Ashy Boy stalks…outside that pair, perhaps Arugamama can slide forward. Alhambra Lad and Promises Kept could settle handy.
