Scone Overview:
Made Rifles the best of the day. Do I want to take odds on? No, so I’ll start him off as the first leg of a Parlay. He was very good on debut over 900m at this track, seemingly run off his legs early but finding the line well. Up to 1100m and winkers on, from the inside gate, looks the winner. Sir Winkle looks a nice horse for Kris Lees and loved the way he went in a recent Newcastle trial. He’s in for a nice prep and though better suited over further, he finds a winnable race fresh. The seventh looks a lottery and I think a horse that can run well and sneak a place is Cloud Cover, who just got held up a fraction at Tamworth last time when wanting to build the revs and should have finished a touch closer. Has run well here before and a fast run 1100m should suit. The query of the day is Venture Capital. If she runs up to her trial, she wins. The problem is that trial was back on May 22, so the break between then and first up here is the unknown, but $5.50 at the time of writing does seem a price where she either drifts out noticeably to $7-$8+, needing the run, or she firms right up and wins. The last 10-15 minutes of betting will tell you how she’s going.
