Randwick
Follow:
Beau Geste – He let the punters down but don’t sack him. He looked to have room for improvement physically and coat wise. He’s a nice type who will be winning races.
Admiral Jello – Newcastle Cup winner if Waller/Team Williams send none. His effort out wide in inferior territory with the weight was outstanding. He’s back on track.
Jaminzah – I think if Hugh had his time again he’d come out given this horse is most effective with clear air early to build momentum. It was a horror show.
Schedule – Really good effort in a fast run Highway. Was under pressure a fair way out but I liked the way he finished off without much luck. He can win a Highway very soon.
Champagne Cuddles – She’s a star. Barriers/tempo/race pattern have cost her in both runs this time in behind Formality. She’s crying out for ground and she will get it now. She’s the filly to follow. Seannie was also tidy.
Dawn Wall – Outstanding return considering the way the track played and the a,punt of ground she made up. Not sure about the Spring, but there is a good race in her maybe in the Autumn. Also a big tick to My Nordic Hero.
Forget:
Multifacets – He’s a milk drinker. Had teased a bit at Rosehill but he did bugger all here. He won’t be winning in town anytime soon.
Spieth – Could come back to bite me, but I think he is a pretender. There is only so many times you can excuse him before enough is enough. Had excuses here, but was beaten comfortably.
Lasqueti Spirit – What on earth is doing here. She’d struggle at the midweeks the way she is going. Just awful this time in.
The Virginian – Stable said during the week this horse deserves an Everest slot…please.
Caulfield
Follow:
Oregons Day – Loved the win. Peach of a ride from Zahra got her home but she toughest it out when challenged late. She will only get better.
Violate – What an unbelievable resumption. He had no right to finish where he did given he was back near last in the run. If he jumps more cleanly, gee he goes close to winning.
Booker – What a run. Did all the work in the race, faced that strong breeze yet still dashed, hit the front, only to be grabbed late. She’s set for a ripping spring.
So Si Bon – Once he figures out how to jump and put himself in a spot, he will land a Group l. He’s producing some outstanding sectionals but gives away an impossible start. Sheidel should be a forgive. Stable overall aren’t exactly firing with their big guns fresh.
Humidor/Yankee Rose – Big tick for Humidor. His splits late were excellent given the tempo of the race. He’s right on track. Forgive Yankee Rose. She pulled up lame. Her splits were still good too.
Tiamo Grace – She was the hidden run. I think had she got clear running at the time she was getting out, I think she goes very close. Keep following her as the distances increase.
Forget:
Schism/Risqué – I was stunned the money came for Schism. There is nothing left in the tank with her. As for Risqué…she’s been disgusting this time in and surely a drop in grade/retirement is on the cards.
Trekking – Not sure the A ground was the inside, and he was held up a touch, but he was still a bit flat for mine. The wraps on him are not going to come true I think.
Seaburge – Tempo was against, but he went backwards instead of holding/making ground. He’s not a Group l horse.
Doomben
Follow:
Lascar – Market said he’d run well but I think forget he went around. Ridden far too aggressively I thought and he was gone before the turn.
Plucky Girl/Payroll – I think this mares race will be a good form reference. Plucky Girl was given none by Lloyd and should have won. Payroll was fresh, run off her legs but I loved her final 150m and through the line.
Pinolino – Pulled up lame…not ideal for a heavily backed favourite.
Cellargirl – Huge huge huge run. Swap the barriers with Snitz, switch the result. She’s absolutely low flying.
Forget:
Beaudacious – Pretty plain I thought. Had good cover throughout, looked ready to let down but didn’t and she was very weak at the end. Hard to trust going forward.
Devil Hawk – Every dog has its day and that was the case for this horse a few weeks back. He’s a bludger and has produced it in a couple of runs since.
Hanwritten – Forgave his fresh run, but not this effort. It was terrible. He was a beaten horse on the turn. Ordered to trial and rightfully so.
Pindan Pearl – She’s a bludger. Teases too often and doesn’t win. Not sure she will win another.
Morphettville
Follow:
Ours – First Australian start and his effort was very good under a strange ride from Martin Kelly. Took off a long way out and was left a sitting shot.
Vintage Grove – Want to give him a forgive. Just tracked up behind slow horses and by the time he got to the outside, those in front near the inside were off and gone.
Split Lip – Liked the first up run from this filly. Just hit that flat spot near the turn but she wound up hard late. Up in trip, she can win.
Gailo Chop/Mio Dio – Outstanding runs. Gailo Chop given a 12/10 by Allen to get the win, and a brilliant one at that. Mio Dio was again very good from the back, fkahsing home.
Forget:
Enzo The Barber – Too hot and cold for my liking. On his best, he’s good. But he was very ordinary here. Hard to trust.
