Ex French galloper Gabella was a real eye catcher at the jump outs and in her two runs back from a spell, so it’s no surprise to see her backed at odds to gain a Caulfield Cup start via winning the Naturalism Stakes (2000m) this Saturday at Caulfield.
The Imported mare ran last Saturday over 1700m at Flemington and was huge in defeat behind Royal Rapture given she was tardy to begin with and was held up at the top of the straight where she appeared to have plenty to offer. She’s drawn to be out of trouble and leading rider Dwayne Dunn takes over. She opened $17 and a steady flow of money has seen her trim up to $12.
Tom Melbourne, to be ridden by the Singapore based Glen Boss, is the $4.00 favourite after opening $3.90. He holds the favourite tag ahead of Jameka at $5.50. Stablemate to Jameka, Set Square, has been $11 to $10.
There have been a stack of firmers in the race. Those worth mentioning are Tall Ship ($81-$41), Zanteca ($61-$41), Master Zephyr ($26-$21) and The Bandit ($31-$26).
