The Caulfield Sprint (1000m) shapes as an open contest, with Cavalry Girl expected to lead and Gallant Son capable of holding a prominent position.
Gallant Son is the top selection at odds, dropping sharply in grade and distance after working too hard out wide in the Manikato Stakes.
Cavalry Girl commands respect following her Moir Stakes second, while Pallaton brings upside after an impressive first-up victory at this track.
Don’t Hope Do could improve back at 1000m, while Oak Hill would be competitive if he produces his best.
2026 Caulfield Sprint Runner Preview:
1. Sweynesday: Former Kiwi that is capable but happy to just watch at this stage.
2. Cavalry Girl: Freshened up since a game effort in the Moir when second to My Gladiola. Lands on speed, 1000m specialist, she appeals. Just the end of 1000m is the query.
3. Gallant Son: I think the market has completely missed Gallant Son here. Total forgive/forget in the Manikato, doing too much work near the speed, out wide, and tired late. He’s had the extra week off, back in trip, back miles in grade/depth, lands on speed…I thought he’d be $5-$6 in early betting. Very keen each way.
4. Oak Hill: If you knew he’d bring his best, he’d go awfully close. Just not sure he’s here to play.
5. Bev’s Nine: Thought he had his chance at Caulfield last time and this looks a bridge too far for mine.
6. Pallaton: Pallaton has been given a mini freshen up since a win over 1100m here first up, finishing best from off speed to score. He’s got good upside to come and back to 1000m is no issue. Leading contender.
7. Don’t Hope Do: Don’t Hope Do is several weeks between runs since a down the track effort over 1100m here behind Pallaton when near the speed and tried hard but tired late. Back to 1000m is a big tick, he’s an improver at odds.
8. Hidden Motive: Handy short course type but needs it easier.
9. Always Enuff: Great ride saw her win at Mornington last start but she’s not up to these.
10. I’m Foxing: She was a find during the Winter, looking a real dynamic short course type. But, this is insane placement surely? Needs it much easier, especially first up.
11. Saluted: SCR

2026 Caulfield Sprint Speed Map
Cavalry Girl looks the leader and should get there pretty comfortably I think, though Gallant Son has early speed and could hold the front if ridden with intent. I’m Foxing will come across but won’t apply pressure. Bev’s Nine and Hidden Motive won’t be far away.
