A small but select field has been assembled for the Camperdown Cup (1600m) this Saturday, with the race headlined by the return of handy stayer Khoekhoe.

1. Khoekhoe: He is the class runner and it will carry him a long way towards victory. He resumes after a down the track effort in the Aplsey Cup at Edenhope, but was wide no cover throughout. Sharp jumpout win at Horsham, leads and will take running down.
2. Rhinceros: He’s the one to beat I say. Strong, determined win two back in the Dunkeld Cup before going to The Valley where he got off speed and kept finding in a good effort behind the in form Princeofnottingham. Gets run of the race, hard fit, in form…rates highly.
3. My Mate Sonny: Put together a couple of strong wins on the bounce before going to the Woodford Cup on New Years Eve at Warrnambool when outclassed but far from disgraced behind Unseen Ruler. I think he’ll land outside the speed comfortably and run an honest race.
4. Legacy Rose: I think she has earned herself a crack at this kind of race off the back of win at Burrumbeet when dominant from just off the speed. Good test here against seasoned campaigners but she is a mare on the up.
5. Any Luck: Sneaky chance at odds. On paper, she was plain in the Nhill Cup, but the tempo was an absolute crawl and the sit/sprint set up wasn’t to her liking. Better suited here if the tempo is genuine and if it is, I see her as a knockout hope.
6. Crafty Rose: Good effort at Mornington last time but I dare say is making up the numbers.

Khoekhoe is first up but he does look the leader if he’s fit. My Mate Sonny likely gets the drag across, with Rhinoceros landing box seat. Any Lucky potentially lands 1/1 but the tempo should be quite slow.
