A field of 16 has accepted for the Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) this Saturday at Caulfield.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 Blue Diamond Stakes.
2025 Blue Diamond Stakes Runner Preview:
1. Field Of Play: Field Of Play has to be given serious respect off the back of the Prelude win two weeks ago. He was on speed and trucking before being clicked up and away he went to win and win well. He was off a break there and was back in trip so back up to 1200m, fitter, he’ll be strong late…takes beating.
2. Tycoon Star: Gets the Blinkers on for the Grand Final after resuming in the Prelude. He got back off the speed and worked home well enough without threatening behind Field Of Play. The rise to 1200m, Blinkers first time…he’s in with a shout. The gate makes things tricky.
3. Extractor: Extractor should be better for the first up run, which came two weeks ago in the Lonhro Plate when off speed and worked home with real purpose late in the piece behind impressive winner Bellazaine. Has that run under the belt and with a more positive ride, he can be thereabouts.
4. Tentyris: I think he’s limited. Just a run on debut in the Chairmans before going to the Talindert last Saturday where he shared the spoils with a short course type, Shining Smile. 1200m is a query, he does have a kind map…but I don’t think he’s up to these.
5. Devil Night: Thought he did a super job on debut in the Prelude, working to the line strongly late in the piece when second to Field Of Play. Natural upside/improvement, kind map, I say he only runs well and can win.
6. Autumn Mystery: He just screams out of being a VRC Sires horse. But, if they do happen to go silly in front, I can see him launching late, working home strongly in restricted room behind Field Of Play. A win wouldn’t shock at all.
7. Olatunde: I think he’s a nice horse on the up but not here.
8. The Playwright: The Playwright will jump on the bunny and take running down, as seen in the Widden at Rosehill where she led throughout and credit to her, she was there to be beaten but found under pressure to fend them off and win, keeping in mind she carried the weight penalty. Back to set weights, leads, will only run well.
9. Palm Angel: Barrier trial in the Preview before drawing much better in the Prelude, was ridden with intent and the end result was an impressive win. The query is a strong 1200m but has a gate to get the run of the race like last start and be effective late.
10. Icarian Dream: Wide no cover throughout in the Magic Millions so forgive and forget the run. The Playwright franked that form so a tick in that regard and C Maher in a Grand Final…they rarely run poorly, so for exotics, entertain her.
11. My Gladiola: Ridden perhaps a touch upside down last time in the Prelude, but given teh run she had on speed, I thought she was entitled to finish off her race better and just whacked to the line. Ridden with a sit is a tick, but IMO, I think the electric debut has busted her.
12. Miss Celine: She looks a massive price for mine. Contested both the Preview and Prelude, each time getting back in the run and spotting those in front a start but I really liked the way she closed off in the Prelude. She’ll love the 1200m, be strong late…just needs a drag into the race.
13. Wiltshire Square: Has good ability this filly but just not sure she is up to this lot.
14. Cherish Me: Cherish Me looks a ripper for Ciaron Maher. She has been kept on ice since a debut win in the Geelong Diamond where she gave them a start and a beating to win quite impressively. Form out of that race looks to be solid and moved well in a tick over jumpout at Caulfield. Looks to be spot on for this and should be strong late.
15. Tempted: She can win, clearly…but is she short enough? Yes, the flashing light behind The Playwright. But, she bludged, sucked up and dashed late, and had a 3kg weight pull. She is a nice horse, but I can’t see her turning the tables.
16. Eden Rose: Hard to beat in a maiden. Not here.

2025 Blue Diamond Stakes Speed Map
Naturally, the Blue Diamond is full of good early speed, but on paper, all I see is The Playwright getting front end control, especially with My Gladiola already been declared to being ridden with a sit. Devil Knight and Palm Angel can press forward maybe? But outside that, I don’t see anything.
