After stretching her remarkable winning streak to 30 races in the Apollo Stakes on February 16, it is no surprise to see Winx heavily supported to take out Saturday’s TAB Chipping Norton Stakes at Royal Randwick as a $1.09 favourite.
TAB opened Winx at $1.10 for the TAB Chipping Norton Stakes on February 18 and she remained at that price until yesterday despite one customer placing a $106,000 wager at $1.10 last Monday.
Winx was posted at $1.08 with TAB once the field was known yesterday and bets of $150,000 and $99,000 were placed on the mare to win her fourth-straight Chipping Norton Stakes.
Since easing to $1.09, one TAB punter has plonked a $120,000 wager at that price for a potential collect of $10,800.
“The shortest price Winx has started a race with TAB Fixed Odds during her 30-race winning run is $1.08, which occurred in the 2016 George Main Stakes, but the $1.09 currently on offer for Saturday’s TAB Chipping Norton Stakes is the same price she was for this race 12 months ago,” TAB’s Trent Langskaill said.
“Just over $2.4 million was paid out by TAB Fixed Odds on Winx in the Apollo Stakes a couple of Saturdays ago and the payout figure will probably be a similar amount if the four-time Cox Plate champion wins for the 31st straight time on Saturday.”
Aside from the big bets on Winx, one TAB customer this morning placed a $66,000 bet at $1.45 on Happy Clapper to finish first or second in Saturday’s TAB Chipping Norton Stakes.
