Port Macquarie
$50 Win Magic Charlee R4 @ $2.1 (Sportsbet)
$20 Win Partnership R6 (Tote)
$10 E/W No Qualm R7 (Tote)
$10 Win Ted’s Dream R8 (Tote)
Port Macquarie Overview:
Made Magic Charlee the best of the day. Kris Lees trains this son of Magic Albert, who has placed in both career outings. Closed off really strong on debut at Scone before going to Tamworth where he took a while to get going but wound up with purpose late. Blinkers and Lugging Bit go on to hopefully sharpen him up and I think the depth here isn’t as strong compared to the Tamworth race. I’m a huge fan of Ethan Ensby in terms of producing a handy stayer for this part of the world and Partnership certainly fits that criteria. Great debut at Murwillumbah before racing over 1800m at the Gold Coast where he sat off a fast speed and once he was angled into clear air, he finished off strongly and proved too good. Up to 2000m should suit and I’m sure he’ll be strong at the end. I think the best gamble of the day at decent odds, who is first up for Warren Gavenlock. He has the awful racing pattern of getting out the back and flashing late, but the speed looks as if it will be quite strong and I thought his Coffs Harbour trial was very good when fourth under no pressure in behind the speed. Hopefully can get to the outside and launch at them. Keen on Ted’s Dream in the last provided the track isn’t too wet. Forecast is for rain so potentially the track will get into the soft range, but hopefully not as soft as what it was at Taree last start. He loomed large to win but just couldn’t dash quick enough on the wet track and was beaten by a good one. Happy to be in his corner.
Moonee Valley
$50 Win Sequitur R2 @ $2.6 (BetEasy)
$15 Win/$35 Place Etna R7 @ $10/$3.1 (Sportsbet)
Moonee Valley Overview:
Wanted to include Indiscretion, but with all the crap involving Weir, who knows how the horses for him will go. I’ll bet on Sequitur in the second, who resumes for Team Hawkes after debuting at Sandown back in August when second behind Alexandra Dreaming. Been given a good break but has trialled up well on a couple of occasions at Flemington. Gate one looks a big tick for her and the depth isn’t overly strong. I think there is a really good each way gamble here in the shape of the Aaron Purcell trained Etna. This former French galloper has had a couple of runs in Australia and has been quite good each time he steps out, the latest over 2100m at Sandown a couple of Wednesdays back where he was making really good ground late nearer the inside behind Prince Ziggy. Up to 2500m is perfect…bigger track would have been ideal, but happy to have something on.
