One of the feature races at Caulfield this Saturday is the Autumn Stakes (1400m), highlighted by the return of Victoria Derby winner Observer.

2026 Autumn Stakes Runner Preview:
1. Observer: Observer has eyes on better/longer races but has class on his side and that is going to carry him a long way towards victory. He hasn’t raced since the Victoria Derby triumph when leading throughout and gave nothing else a look in. Jumpouts have been fair, suggesting he wants more ground, but class is very much on his side.
2. Buccleuch: Buccleuch resumed a few weeks back over this trip at Flemington when wide no cover throughout and the hard run told late. Maps much better this time around and with the run under the belt, is one for exotics.
3. Planet Red: Planet Red has class and is the Caulfield Guineas runner up. He tried his heart out there but just found one better in Autumn Boy. Two jumpouts under the belt for the return and 1400m fresh does signal intent with eyes towards the Guineas so keen to see how he goes.
4. Arcora: Has eyes on 2000m+ you’d imagine so will need the run.
5. Master Of The Air: Very, very interesting runner. Big baby in the Spring but did some nice things and he has trialled up very well in Sydney. Definite market watch.
6. Top Reward: Ran well in two runs to start his career in the Spring. Looks like he will lead this field up and will threaten at a price if the track is playing up/in.
7. Onavuitton: Loved his first up win at Cranbourne. Harder here, but has ability, so don’t entirely dismiss.
8. Crocodile: Impressive return at Sandown but do think he needs it a touch easier.
9. Cyber Link: Thought it was just a win on debut at Pakenham. Seems short in betting for mine. I could mark him longer.
10. Victorious Spirit: Likely spots them a start but will be strong late. Wait until he gets over further.
11. Top Conti: Trialled super and would be a near good thing in a maiden…but not here.
12. Davida: She’ll land on speed and run an honest race, could catch them off guard being hard fit…but gee she seems short.

Top Reward should a forward spot from the inside gate and potentially lead. Drawn wide, I think the likes of Davida and Cyber Link will push on. Victorious Spirit should get the slide across. Crocodile maps to do no work…do they push forward with Observer or opt for a sit?
