Spring carnival is in full swing, Group 1’s left right and centre, but Swan Hill based trainer Nathan Hobson has had one race on his mind for the past year – The Sportsbet Hotham.
You know the race has something to offer when the trainer of the last placegetter, from last year’s race, targeted Friday’s $75,000 Maiden at Ballarat.
Hobson’s gelding, Sathern, was distanced in last year’s Hotham and was retired soon after.
Not to be deterred the Hobson bought Henry’s Affair off the internet, spending $3,000 on the Hotham bound gelding.
Henry’s Affair is $26 ahead of Wednesday’s barrier draw. Orange trained gelding All The Wine heads betting on $4.50, just ahead of Pujols ($4.60).
“The race for battlers has attracted runners from far and wide and it’s great to see Nathan actually targeted this year’s race. Henry’s Affair only has to finish in the top 10 and he’ll get his purchase price back,’’ said sportsbet.com.au’s Will Byrne.
