It was another thrilling finish in a Group l at Randwick on Saturday, with No Compromise just getting the verdict in The Metropolitan (2400m).

1.No Compromise: He would have been a tragedy beaten if he didn’t get the run in the straight but Tommy Berry was able to slice his way through and drove hard late to get the win in a very close finish. Can I follow this form for the Caulfield Cup? I am saying no, but it’s a good Group l win.

2.Le Don De Vie: The market support was relentless for him and it all but paid off. J Mac gave him a 12/10 and he was all over the winner but was nabbed late by No Compromise. This was his chance to win a major and he just missed. Still a good run.

3.Realm Of Flowers: Run of the race IMO given she was wide no cover for the trip and given she only got beat 0.09L, any hint of normal luck and I think she wins. But, she got conditions to suit and was down in the weights.

4.Stockman: They rode with intent and had him much closer in the run rather than back near last. He was there to win the race but just lacks any real turn of foot and whacked away for fourth. That’s his level and as good as he goes.

5.Sacramento: What a weird run this was. 600m out it looked like the ambulance would beat him home but in the end, he only got beat a length. He did get an absolute picnic in front though. Ride was a peach.

6.Durston: He was trucking in the run but the query leading in was how he’d handle the wet track and it’s clear that he’s not as effective. Wheels were spinning for sure. Give him a dry track and he’ll be a Group l winner.

7.Carif: Had the suck run behind the slow tempo and was presented to win the race. Just lacks the class and finale to beat them at Group l level. I think he’d be hard to beat if they ran in the St Leger.

8.Arapaho: Got back to near last in the run and given the race shape, he had zero chance of winning. His run was actually quite good and another that would be hard to beat in the St Leger.

9.Mankayan: Another that was no hope with the race shape and he actually didn’t do a bad job in defeat given the race shape. Just not quite up to this level and is another that could be effective in the St Leger.
Rating: 4/10
10.Kukeracha: Had the suck run behind the speed but he just couldn’t fire a shot when asked and confirmed his prep so far, which has been terrible. He hasn’t come back.

11: Hameron: Not suited by the race shape but even allowing for that, he was outclassed and was very flat late, likely not handling the seven day back up.
Rating: 1/10
12: Grove Ferry: Rode with intent, rolling forward, but he didn’t handle the back up at all and was one of the first horse beat in a very plain finale.
Rating: 1/10
