2022 Spring Champion Stakes Race Horse Ratings
1. Sharp N Smart: Well what a win this was. Three wide no cover for the trip and he looked gone at a few stages, but he picked up when it counted, savaged the line late and got there in the last stride. Outstanding performance…will it break his heart though should they head to the Derby?
Rating: 9/10
2. Elliptical: Could not have been ridden better by Blake Shinn. Presented to win after getting the box seat and was hailed as the winner for the most part, but was nabbed on the peg by Sharp N Smart. He’s a good horse and I think will be much better come the Autumn.
Rating: 8.5/10
3. She’s Extreme: I think this run confirms that she’s a very good filly. It also confirms that Glyn Schofield shouldn’t be riding in these big races anymore. He gave this filly no real hope with poor decisions during the race, especially in the straight. No doubt in my mind the ride cost her the win.
Rating: 8.5/10
4. Matcha Latte: Thought Tom Sherry rode a peach race. He lobbed into the 1/1 and presented to win the race at the top of the straight. Just being second up off a break, condition just told late and he couldn’t quite finish it off, but the run was full of merit.
Rating: 7.5/10
5. Williamsburg: Surprised most by showing good early speed and was able to put himself into a lovely spot behind the speed. Sucked up near the fence and loomed as some sort of danger but 2000m just saw him out I think and he tired. Perhaps reverting back to riding with more patience, he’ll be more effective late.
Rating: 7/10
6. Renaissance Woman: I’m certainly not turned off her from an Oaks perspective. Loomed as some sort of threat 300m but just couldn’t quite dash when she had to, but stayed on and was very good late. Still think she’s one of the hardest to beat in the Oaks alongside She’s Extreme.
Rating: 7/10
7. Owen County: He was brave. Wide throughout and was off the bit a fair way out but he kept on when entitled to knock up and wasn’t beaten too far. That said, I don’t think he’s up to this level.
Rating: 6.5/10
8. Manzoice: He’s a nice horse this. Just lost sight of the bunny when they dashed but I really liked the way he found the line without threatening. I think he could be a sleeper for the Derby next week if they back up.
Rarting: 7/10
9. Conqueror: He’s teased to be a good horse…but he’s not. His average and this run confirmed it. He got back and had every chance to finish off, but didn’t.
Rating: 2/10
10. Promitto: Some horses thrive on the back up, other’s dont….he didn’t back up at all and was terrible, but forgive and forget.
Rating: 3/10
11. Coppleson: End of prep run this was. Had a good run on the fence but when it came to crunch time, he folded and dropped right out.
Rating: 1/10
12. Bunker Hut: Did work to find the front and once he got to the top, he pulled really hard and was a beaten horse 600m out. Forget he went around.
Rating: 0/10
