Daniel Morton trained Scenic Shot has taken out his third Group 1 victory in today’s Doomben Cup ahead of the two imported horses, My Kingdom of Fife and Glass Harmonium with race favourite Shoot Out finishing in fifth position.
Veteran West Australian gelding Scenic Shot has won his second Doomben Cup in a tight finish from European imports My Kingdom Of Fife and Glass Harmonium.
The eight-year-old won the Brisbane feature two years ago and also claimed the 2009 Mackinnon Stakes.
His victory took his prize money past the $3 million mark for his owners who include his trainer Dan Morton.
Ridden by Shane Scriven, Scenic Shot surged along the fence inside the final 100 metres to take the 2020m race from the two favourites.
Scriven is riding on a stay of proceedings pending an appeal over a ban for stealing another rider’s whip during a race at Ipswich last month.
