Star filly Amelia’s Jewel confirmed her status as one of the best younger horses in Australia with a Group l win at Ascot this Saturday via the Northerly Stakes (1800m).

Read on for the 2022 Northerly Stakes Post Race Horse Ratings.

2022 Northerly Stakes Race Horse Ratings

1. Amelia’s Jewel: Can easily make a case to say she’s the best 3YO in Australia given she has proven herself now from 1200m to 1800m and gee she was dynamic. Helped by a 12/10 ride from Carbery, who has slaughtered a few from gate one in recent weeks but this was a peach. Got her off the fence, angled clear at the right and her brilliance came to the fore.

Rating: 10/10

2. Ironclad: What a run in defeat. He looked gone to my eye after a plain Railway effort but they rode with more intent, up on speed and gee he fought on courageously, jus6 beaten by a star filly.

Rating: 9/10

3. Steinem: Could make a case to say she runs second with clear air. Just got badly held up at a crucial stage and was very good late nearer the inside. Job done for her, she’s now a Group l placegetter.

Rating: 8.5/10

4. Cascadian: Mighty in defeat. Back, wide throughout, and like Paulele, he crabbed on the turn but balanced up and was as brave as ever to finish fourth. If he draws a decent marble, he fights the finish out.

Rating: 8.5/10

5. Bustler: He’s a beauty. Like the Guineas, he gave the drag up to the filly and was as game as always, but just couldn’t quite finish it off. Wouldn’t be shocked at all if he came to Melbourne in the Autumn and measured up.

Rating: 8/10

6. Trix Of The Trade: Gate sealed his fate pre race. He got a mile out of his ground but you had to like the way he found the line alongside Cascadian. Super job this prep and I dare say it’s paddock time.

Rating: 7.5/10

7. Treasured Star: Thought Pike gave her every chance but like it has been all carnival, the cerise and white runners just haven’t savaged the line when it has mattered and she was plain. What Bob Peters would do to get Grant & Alana Williams back.

Rating: 3/10

8. Alaskan God: Much better run from a Perth Cup perspective. Terrible in the Railway but this run, he hit the line with purpose, much like the first up run, so he’s back on track I feel.

Rarting: 6/10

9. Dom To Shoot: Had a suck run on the fence tracking the speed, and actually got on the back of the winner, but just didn’t have the class/quality to go with her and whacked away, but far from disgraced.

Rating: 4/10

10. God Has Chosen: Get CJP back on and I reckon he’s right on track for the Perth Cup. Lacked the change up speed but he was good to the line and through it. Keep following him.

Rating: 6/10

11. Searchin Rocs: She got very fired up in the run, sitting wide throughout and was a beaten horse at the top of the straight. Reckon back to Mares grade she can be a winning contender.

Rating: 2/10

12. Notorious One: Did work to find the front but got a couple of cheap sectionals. Once the pressure was applied on the turn, he caved in and was plain.

Rating: 1/10

13. Bad Wolf: Tracked up behind Notorious One but once that horse stopped, he fell into the lap of this guy and he lost all hope. Should have finished a bit closer.

Rating: 2/10

14. Kaptain Kaos: Had a suck run on the fence and tracked up nicely but once Warwick asked for an effort, the horse found nothing and just hasn’t come up this prep.

Rating: 1/10

15. Startrade: Did an outstanding job in the Railway but this was end of prep run. Got three and four wide cover but when asked to go, he went backwards.

Rating: 1/10
