The Feehan Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday didn’t have the most outstanding field assembled, but it was won by a classy animal, with Mr Brightside securing his Cox Plate berth.

1: Mr Brightside: Got outside Earlswood very comfortably and really, the race was over after 100m. Commanding performance, albeit against little opposition, but he gets a Cox Plate berth now and is certainly heading in the right direction.

Rating: 8.5/10

2: Inspirational Girl: Trucked up nicely and angled clear on the turn. Just left flat footed but picked up late and was good through the line. A pass mark for sure with an eye towards the Caulfield Cup but was still very easily held.

3: Spanish Mission: Had the 1/1 and was going easily in the run. Just doesn’t have the the sprint in the legs but stuck to the task pretty well with the Melbourne Cup his main aim. He’s on track.

Rating: 6.5/10

4: Sound: As expected, he was last in the run, and flat footed, but I actually didn’t mind the way he picked up late and was good to the line and through it. Pass mark for sure.

Rating: 6/10

5: Earlswood: Jury is out. Got a soft lead but once Mr Brightside turned the pressure on, he put up the white flag quite quickly and this was a very poor return. It’ll only get harder.
