The Underwood Stakes is shaping as a major test of Chris Waller’s spring arsenal, with Aeliana, Birdman and Buckaroo set to head towards the Caulfield Group 1 after missing the Makybe Diva Stakes.
Stablemates Asterix and Lindermann could further strengthen Waller’s hand, while Perth star Cosmic Crusader brings strong Melbourne form into the 1800-metre contest.
Evaporate, Kingswood, Piggyback and Saint George are also among the likely nominations, although Evaporate and Saint George have alternative assignments.
With several leading spring contenders converging at weight-for-age, the Underwood should provide an important guide towards the major middle-distance races ahead.
