The Cox Plate is not just a single race, but the centrepiece of an entire racing carnival. There are a number of highly anticipated events scheduled as part of the Cox Plate carnival, including a range of secondary races and entertainment events. Moonee Valley is certainly the place to be at this time of year, with live music, dining packages, fashion parades, and much more to keep you entertained.
The Cox Plate Carnival starts on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, with Breakfast With The Best. This function is when the barrier draw for the big race is announced, and lots of punters will be keen to get this information before making any bets. The Cox Plate Ladies Fashion Luncheon is held on the same day, and includes superb dining, live entertainment, and a fashion parade for the season ahead.
The horse racing starts on the evening of Friday, October 26, when the Manikato Stakes is run to kick the carnival into gear. Cox Plate Day is the next day, Saturday, October 27, when the Group 1 Cox Plate is held alongside a number of other Group events. In the 2012 program, the following Group and Listed races were scheduled alongside the Cox Plate.
