Mulberry Racing has entered The Everest fray as its newest slot holder.

The vacant Everest slot formerly held by The Star has been secured by a relatively new name in the industry – Mulberry Racing.

Racing NSW confirmed on Thursday that the organisation had acquired the slot on a three-year deal after submitting “the most compelling offer” during an expression of interest process.

Founded in 2023, Mulberry Racing describes itself on its website as “a dynamic new force in Australian Racing”.

With a data-oriented focus, it owns a dedicated equine property near Sydney and currently races horses in Australia, New Zealand and the USA, including the Brad Widdup-trained stakes winner Jedibeel.

Mulberry Racing was also prominent at the Magic Millions sale earlier this year where its purchases included a $700,000 filly by Home Affairs.

Racing NSW chief operating officer, Graeme Hinton, said Mulberry’s ability to engage with a fresh market was among the reasons it had been chosen to secure the vacant slot.

“We are excited to welcome Mulberry Racing as our newest slot holder in The TAB Everest,” Hinton said in a statement.

“In particular, the opportunity to target a new demographic is what The TAB Everest is all about.”

Mulberry’s racing manager, Lachlan Sheridan, said they believed they could not only add value to the theatre surrounding The Everest, but win it.

“At Mulberry Racing, data drives every decision we make,” Sheridan said.

“From day one, we’ve used this approach to build a strong stable across Australia and the United States – one that we believe has the quality and depth to win The Everest.”

The $20 million showpiece will be run on October 18 at Randwick.
