Warwoven’s dominant victory in the Group 1 Golden Rose has earned him one of the highest performance ratings recorded by a winner of the race over the past decade.
The Bjorn Baker-trained colt received a 105.5 weight-for-age performance rating from Daniel O’Sullivan after defeating his rivals by 3.2 lengths in Saturday’s 1400m feature at Rosehill.
Of the recent Golden Rose winners compared by O’Sullivan, only Beiwacht at 108 and Bivouac at 106 produced higher figures.
Warwoven’s 105.5 rating places him alongside Trapeze Artist and ahead of The Autumn Sun, who recorded 104.5, on O’Sullivan’s WFA Performance Ratings scale.
Ridden by Rachel King, Warwoven stopped the clock at 1:20.93 despite racing relatively close to a demanding early tempo.
Central Europe ran 13 lengths faster than O’Sullivan’s TopRate standard to the 600m, with Warwoven only 2.9 lengths behind him at that stage of the race.
“That is an elite performance. Beiwacht, Bivouac, Trapeze Artist and Autumn Sun all went on to win multiple Group 1 races. Assuming Warwoven stays sound, it’s hard to imagine he won’t join them,” O’Sullivan said.
The victory also provided sire Sword Of State with his first Group 1 winner.
Baker has indicated the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas is the likely next assignment for Warwoven, while a start in the Cox Plate also remains a possibility.
