One of Victoria’s emerging young trainers, Reece Goodwin was born into a racing family. Let’s learn more about him with our Quick Questions..

What is your first racing memory?

Makybe Diva winning her third Melbourne Cup when I was an eight-year-old boy… unforgettable.

Who is your favourite horse and why?

Past favourite would be Zipping, he was just an old warrior! He was well known for his four Sandown Classics but he was also placed in a Cox Plate and was fourth in a Melbourne Cup.

I try not to have a favourite in my stable, I like to treat them equally and also with having a lot of tried horses we tend to not have them for too long so I try not to get too attached!Β

Who is the best horse you’ve been involved with?

Probably Mr Clint in Singapore; I was riding him a fair bit in track work leading into the Group 1 Singapore Guineas which he won with Zac Purton aboard.

And the best horse you have seen?

Black Caviar, hands down.

Who is your ‘what if’ horse?.

Just Folk comes to mind. I had gathered enough clients to have a crack around $150k mark which was huge for me and still is now! Of course he was sold for $200k to Gavin Bedggood & Mailbag and he went on to win more then I want to know or remember! Since then about 88 different people have said they were “underbidder!”Β

Who do you admire most in racing?

Funnily enough it’s a jockey – Damian Lane. He is a great horseman; firstly a world class jockey and a good person who treats everyone equally. I always get him on when I can (which isn’t easy).

Β What is one change/improvement you’d love to see in racing?

Bin the change of tactics rule, it would have to be the only sport in the world where you give your opposition a heads-up on what your tactics are going to be or might be.

What’s the funniest moment you’ve experienced in racing?

Nothing comes to mind in my time. But boy I get a good laugh at the stories John Sadler tells me from back in his prime!

What is your favourite pastime outside of racing?

Odd one – I am a bit of a gamer and I don’t mind playing the PS5 when I get the time.

What is your favourite T.V show?

Netflix series called The Lincoln Lawyer.

Best concert you’ve been to?

Nickleback.

What slogan summarizes your outlook on life?

Have to risk it to get the biscuit.

Favourite food?

Steak.

Favourite racecourse?

Dederang.

If you weren’t a racehorse trainer what would you be doing?

Probably doing form/media in racing.
