Son of Home Affairs looks the goods in Caulfield trial

Roll The Dice Racing’s promising two-year-old Guest House made an immediate impression at the Caulfield Heath trials on Thursday, producing a composed and classy performance that marked him as one of the more interesting juveniles in Victoria heading into summer.

A son of Home Affairs, Guest House has been given a patient grounding, and co-trainer Michael Kent Jnr was clearly satisfied with the colt’s professionalism and improvement.

“Lovely piece of work, he’s got good talent, he is a very speedy customer and we’ve done a lot of work just getting him to harness his energy and I thought he really equipped himself well this morning. From an outside draw he begun okay, he could probably be better but he mustered quickly without overdoing it. Relaxed well outside of the leader whilst going a nice tempo and I think on the Heath track it’s not easy to cover ground and keep going, so he showed good stamina late to extend and win nicely.”

Guest House travelled smoothly outside the speed before lifting late, showing both sharpness and stamina — an encouraging mix for a colt who is still learning his craft.

While the stable is mindful of the precocity of two-year-olds, Kent Jnr didn’t shy away from outlining the likely next step.

“Of course, two-year-olds are a day-by-day thing but we’d love to be back here next week for the Magic Millions 1100, that looks a lovely race for him to start his career.”

For Roll The Dice Racing, the early signs are promising. Guest House has shown the raw tools, the temperament, and now the trial performance to suggest he could be making an impact sooner rather than later.
