Sir Delius has been listed among nominations for Saturday’s Craven Plate (2000m) at Randwick, despite Racing Victoria’s controversial decision to withdraw him from the Melbourne Cup and Cox Plate.
The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained import was ruled out of both races last week after mandatory CT scans revealed a “heightened risk of injury”.
The move divided opinion within the racing community, with some calling the ruling overly cautious.
Sir Delius had been one of the spring’s standout performers, winning both the Underwood Stakes and Turnbull Stakes to sit high in betting markets for the two Victorian features.
Despite the setback, his inclusion among Craven Plate entries suggests connections may look to continue his preparation in Sydney — pending further veterinary clearance.
