Champion trainer Chris Waller is likely to chase a second win in the Australasian Oaks after Movin Out registered her maiden Australian win at Mornington.
Movin Out was explosive as she rounded up the opposition to take out the Mornington Guineas (1600m) on Saturday.
Sent out the $4.40 favourite under Ben Melham, Movin Out scored a runaway 2-½ length win from Storm Season ($6) with Fear No Evil ($5.50) a half-head away third.
A New Zealand-bred filly that commenced her racing career in her birthplace, Movin Out was having her first start in Melbourne following two starts in Sydney after joining the Waller stable.
Waller’s Melbourne representative Lizzie Collett said Movin Out arrived in Melbourne on Monday to be prepared for Saturday’s race and the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville next Saturday.
Egg Tart in 2017, was Waller’s sole previous winner in the Group 1 race in Adelaide.
Collett said Movin Out had kept everyone on their toes since her arrival at Waller’s Flemington stable.
“She’s a quirky character and everyone in the Melbourne stable and Sydney stable would agree with that,” Collett said.
“She did everything right today. She settled, she relaxed, she was quiet and settled in the mounting yard, so I was very happy with her.
“The plan is hopefully to go to the Oaks next week in Adelaide.
“We’ll give her a quiet week. Treat her quietly, take her to the beach a couple of time, let her rest and recover, and then hopefully she travels up on Thursday night.”
Movin Out finished fourth over 1500m at her Australian debut before stepping up to 2000m in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes before making her way to Melbourne.
Melham said he would have no hesitation in heading to Adelaide to partner the filly after her commanding victory on Saturday, saying the 2000m would not be a problem for the filly, providing she relaxes during the race.
