Tajanis has given Chris Waller a third win in the Australia Day Cup, all of which have been achieved with imported gallopers.
The Listed race at Warwick Farm on Monday was the feature event on the day with the Waller stable providing the first and third placegetters.
Waller had previous won the Australia Day Cup with Wazn in 2012, who like Monday’s winner was Irish bred, while his previous winner to Tajanis, Chalk Stream, was bred in the UK.
Sent out the $2.40 betting app favourite under Zac Lloyd, Tajanis wore down the Victorian visitor Taramansour ($7) to score by three-quarters-of-a-length with Saltcoats ($3.60) a further 3-¾ lengths away third.
Tajanis arrived in Australia early last year and started his career in Melbourne where he was winless in four starts before switching to Waller’s Rosehill stable.
Monday’s victory was his third since transferring north and his second on end after claiming a 2400m victory at Rosehill nine days prior.
Zane Jones, representing the Waller stable, said Tajanis was given a great ride by Lloyd after James Mcdonald had partnered the gelding in his previous run but could get down to the 53kg on Monday.
“He’s a horse that is racing at the top of his game and is full of confidence,” Jones told Sky Racing Central.
“It was a masterful ride by James the other day to get the job done and he’s really reacted well from that win.
“He was given another great ride by Zac today. He was well-weighted today, but you still have to go out there and do it.
“It’s a hot day and he got a little bit warm pre-race, but he’s full of confidence and that showed in the finish.”
Jones said stablemate Saltcoats produced another solid effort to claim a second Stakes race placing but found the 2400m beyond him.
“It was a good effort, and he was ridden a peach by James,” Jones said.
“He was possibly a little bit suspect at the mile-and-a-half, but there’s plenty of options coming up for him, but importantly he got a cheque for his connections.”
